Connor's acting, bad writing -- Trip weeping in Forgotten

hmm trip is the only person archer went on shoreleave willing with.
desert crossing, bound, they were talking about camping in catwalk, they had mixed business with pleasure in canamar.

actually trip mostly kept the grief to himself.
he got angry with malcolm because malcolm tried to get him to face it.
he went to phlox for help in sleeping.
shrug..

just like how trip finally fell apart in front of trusted friend like real people i have known did the delayed grief is also very real .
men especially seem to go through it.
often they are the ones trying to be strong for everyone else.
it is especially seen in a circumstance just like trip's sister were the loved one dies suddenly.

it is also sometimes seen among fathers whose wife suffered a miscarriage.
the man is trying to be there for his wife and the rest of the family and it can be months , year before a triggering event brings forth the feelings of loss.

No one is arguing the grief but the acting choices made. Also even though it is normal to cover up or surpress grief in good drama glimpses are given to remind the casual viewer as well as the fans that the grief is not forgotten.Casual viewers tuning in to some eps would wonder if eps were old ones they missed etc. Having read many of the shooting scripts the writers had these lines that reminded the viewer but they didn't make the final cut or were changed entirely.We never lost that Archer was changed by the events---his body language told us this was no longer the happy go-lucky explorer.There were non-scripted choices CT could have made as well to remind us of Trip's feelings.Grasping for any kind of distraction like sex is an indicator as well and T'Pol would have no idea humans could react that way or maybe she did.

I was just all over Trip and his issues and felt the scene gagworthy.I felt for most of the show after season 1 Trip was extremely immature and the experiences he was having should have matured him.I think all the fan perception of the depth of his and Archer's friendship was extremely exaggerated.Watching the marathon last night cemented that for me.I think Archer saw him as a friend but a younger one he wouldn't necessarily share things with.Archer's comments that nobody needed shoreleave more than Trip was said with a shake of the head and a smile like towards a kid. CT plays that Trip very well--he portrays the joi de vivre perfectly.The Trip of First Flight and Carbon Creek are done well. Even the Trip of Cogenitor who doesn't understand why Archer doesn't back him up is played well.Angry Trip of the Expanse who is glad to see the last of T'Pol is played well.Blubbering Trip and self-righteous Trip are just bad choices or the actor is just too limited to pull them off and maintain the drama.

there are small lines and touches woven in out of different scripts within the fourth season as reminder of what trip has lost.
but he is also like so many others who go through the delayed grief cycle overwhelmed with responsibilities.

i just find this the acting choice was wrong just odd considering several of us have commented we have seen real people .. real men .. break down in a private place with a trusted friend just like trip did.

Season 4 Trip was self-righteous to me.

Really I never got that I felt bad for him cause its like he was trying to get together with Tpol but she marries someone else and then divorces that someone else and still she leaves him hanging. Felt bad for him cause again he is trying to get her to open up and see if she feels same way and she doesn't.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I will refrain from mine but suffice to say I think there were some really poor acting choices that didn't have screen chemistry to help them out.

Yes they are and always find intresting what everyone has to say; I would never change anyones mind always curious about stuff. Like I said friend a mine was upset cause they killed Trip off at the end and its like I had no clue about Enterprise til I saw that eps and its like strange but kinda got me into tapeing it and then thought hmmm look into the dvds easier then trying to tape shows. And sorry went off topic but nope understand and thanks

Commenting on this thread a little late (sorry) but I would say that I found CT's acting choice and the breakdown and crying just fine and affecting. The only thing I wish was different was that it had been Malcolm that he broke down in front of instead of T'Pol - it would have been a nice closure and bring it full circle to their corridor scene in "The Expanse" where Mal was trying to elicit just such a response from Trip.

I totally agree with that. And also since Malcolm is the one who accompanied Trip to the scene when they got home.

I can't wait to get in there, Cap'n. Find the people who did this. And tell me we won't be tip-toeing around. None of that non-interference crap T'Pol is always shoving down our throats. Maybe it's a good thing she's leaving.

He doesn't say he "glad" she's leaving. He simply sees her departure as the removal of a potential impediment to their mission -- or perhaps, his personal mission to avenge his sister.

I think he knows Archer listens to her advice and doesn't want revenge interfered with no matter what. That is natural but also speaks to the fact he knows Archer is very influenced.

Back on topic though---this was an example of some of CT's best acting on Ent IMO.
