Connecting the Star Wars Galaxy to our own

Well there seems to be an overwhelming consensus against midichlorians. I wonder if it's just 'cause they were in the PT?

Personally, I like the concept that one day science will enable us to study what god is made of. Along similar lines, I've been pondering force-ghosts. Much like the Hindu vision of god as a river that got poured into many vessels (gods), these echoes of individual consciousness within the force become something like angels and demons. A lot could be done with a SW pantheon.

A little off topic, but when they say that it's A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far,Far Away how far away and how long ago do you think it happened?
I mean when I was a kid I thought it would be happening during our middle ages, and in a galaxy that would be the farthest away that we could still see with a telescope.

It could be anything. That phrase could simply be a metaphor. I mean, a long time ago from where? Our reality? Or the far future? Far past? And a galaxy far, far away...from where?

From where ever you're watching it.

No, we hate it because we already had an explanation for the Force, and a good one, which midichlorians contradict. (io9)

All of a sudden, instead of there being an energy field that "binds the galaxy together," there are little microscopic life forms inside of the Jedi, allowing them to... do what? What do the microscopic entities have to do with the galaxy-wide life force? Are they like symbiotes that allow you to connect to the energy field? If the Force is in every living thing, then why do only some people have midichlorians? Does the Dark Side of the Force have different-flavored midichlorians than the light side?

^ As for that last bit, I thought that there is actually no such thing as the "Dark side" or "Light side" of the force, and that it's all a matter of how each individual Force user perceives and uses it.

My understanding is that midichlorians generate the energy field, enable other life to exist, and actually inhabit everyone (like previously independent organisms that got ingested and became organelles in the new lifeform). Just more-so the jedi, allowing them to become more than pawns in the grand dance of the galaxy.

As for light side/dark side. I'd agree it comes down to individual choice which aspect of the will of the force one aligns himself with. There is, however, limited power disposed to those who follow dark side, which is why they naturally strive to be one of only two lords.

I propose a Star Wars Trek(no relation to the Star Trek wars of the early 2400's), to discover the SW galaxy and get the true answers

The only connection I'm aware of is in A New Hope.

Luke: "What's a duck?"

Obi Wan: "Nevermind."
