Congratulations, Ensign. Captain Janeway has a new job for you.

Official Recommendation: The crew of Voyager have been using the same accommodations for several years now. Rather than simply creating games and amusement, it's a change of scene that might make the crew the happiest.

I propose we create a large resort, except one far different than the one we saw from Neelix. A large 5 star hotel complete with suites and spectacular views for the crew, nearby a beautiful lake, with a small island perfect for camping trips.

This will give the crew the opportunity to be pampered or get a much more simple existence, giving the crew a chance for a change of pace on different levels.

Captain, I would respectfully point out that all of these things are offered in the Disney simulation that I have already proposed. That would in addition to the rides and other amusements the entire program provides.

I would be happy to personally introduce to the spa features of the simulation.

Captain Janeway,

Thank you again for taking the time to meet with me earlier this afternoon to discuss my proposed holodeck program "The Voyager Olympics". Per your request, here is a short written summary of the matters we discussed in our meeting.

1. There is no need to be concerned that the sporting events will be disturbed by crewmembers entering or leaving the holodeck while the program is running. Of course, players competing as part of a team will need to remain in the holodeck for the duration of their match, however, spectators and athletes who are not currently competing will be able to come and go without disrupting the events in progress, just as in real life.

2. One additional sporting event has already been scheduled for the official Olympic scenario - traditional Terran arm wrestling. In the program credits, I will be thanking Ms. Hawthorne in Stellar Cartography for helping me come up with that idea.

3. Here is the additional information you requested regarding the amenities offered in the Ski Lodge:

  • The lodge's accommodations include several lovely guest rooms and a luxurious honeymoon suite - a more practical alternative than loaning out the Delta Flyer. Crewmembers will be able to book these rooms with their holodeck time-credits, and will essentially be able to take a vacation while still on board the ship. Additionally, you could have the option to assign VIP passengers to these accommodations, rather than putting them in traditional guest quarters.
  • The bar & grill adjacent to the Great Hall does, indeed, feature a full service coffee bar in addition to the fully-stocked wet bar. I have a long list of different coffee beverages already prepared for programming, however, I hope that you, the ship's foremost expert on coffee, might be gracious enough to suggest a few special concoctions that might be particularly welcomed by our crew.
  • I am very pleased that you have taken an interest in the plans I have made regarding spa facilities. As I mentioned in our meeting, I have already roughed out programming that will provide for several hot tubs to be scattered throughout the simulation. Some will be placed near the beach on the Summer Side, so that crewmembers can enjoy a beautiful ocean vista while relaxing in the hot tubs. Several more hot tubs will be located on the Winter Side, along with free standing saunas. We will all be able to enjoy the Scandinavian custom of stepping out of a steaming hot tub or sauna and rolling in the crisp, clean snow. Of course, all of the outdoor spa facilities will be discreetly placed and carefully screened with trees and other climate-appropriate flora, so that crewmembers who wish to embrace the time honored tradition of nude bathing may do so without displaying themselves to anyone other than their invited guests.
  • In addition to these private spa facilities, a public spa will be located in the Ski Lodge. It will be fully featured, offering a wide variety of baths, soaks, massages, and skin and body treatments.
4. There is, indeed, space to add some antique "rollercoasters" and similar constructions near the beach on the Summer Side, if it turns out the the crew is interested in such amusements. Mr. Paris was kind enough to help me locate some research material on them, and I will be able to program such structures with minimal effort. I see no need, however, to program the associated bizarre characters Mr. Paris described to me. I believe some of our crewmembers might find it annoying to be accosted by a giant talking mouse while trying to enjoy the sporting events and resort facilities. We do have a wide variety of Flotter simulations already available for anyone who might be interested in such characters.

Once again, Captain, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to speak with me personally about my proposed program. (And, I'm pleased that you enjoyed the coffee cake I brought you. I've uploaded the recipe into the general replicator files - you can find it under AMG17.) If you have any additional questions regarding my program, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
Lt. G-----, Security.

Captain Janeway,

I would like to thank you again for your kind words regarding the message program I passed your way this afternoon. I understand the Doctor can be a little abrupt in his application of the various techniques. I am pleased that Sven or Monica, whichever you chose, did a wonderful job.

Per your request, I have compiled a list of responses to the inquires you had earlier today.

1. The Disney program encompasses four different theme parks and over 6 different resorts to cover the broad spectrum of interests on Voyager. Each theme park is different, and you'll find that some are geared more toward adults while others will fit with a more youthful taste.

To your question regarding large, over-sized animals, the answer is that only two of the four parks actually have these. I believe you will find them to be non-intrusive and a rather delightful addition to the over-all feel of those parks. They do not, however, stalk you. I am uncertain where this impression comes from?

2. There are plenty of activities that fall within the guidelines given to us by Commander Chakotay to ensure all crew members are exercising as they should. In addition to walking the theme parks, you'll find various water sports such as jet skiing, snorkling, and parasailing. There's also volleyball, horseback riding, and golf.

If you'd like to test any of these aspects of the program prior to making your decision, I have some beta programs running, and I would be more than happy to show you around the more physical of the activities.

3. There is one Four Star hotel within the complex. You'll find it a charming throw back to the 1920's America.

Aside from that, you'll find basic hotel and motel accommodations along with lodges and a safari like experience. I assure you, there is lodging to cover everyone's different tastes.

In regards to your question about coffee, this is an Earth simulation from the early 21st century. Though you'll not find anything of a Klingon variety, I've made certain that coffee is readily available throughout. I've taken the liberty of programming both a coffee boy and coffee girl that you may choose to have come along with you to carry items and fetch coffee as you please.

I believe you will find my simulation all-inclusive. I assure you it will cover everyone's needs, and no crew member will be in want while there. This company called itself the "Happiest Place on Earth", and I can assure that I would see to it that it was at the very least the happiest place on Voyager.

If you would allow me to give you a small tour of one of the parks, I think you'll see what I mean. I believe Epicot is a good start as I understand you are curious about the French section I mentioned in an earlier report. I can be available to be your guide after our duty shift today.

Hmmm is this "The Sagamore" on Lake George of which you speak, where Janeway likes to take moonlight sails? http://www.thesagamore.com/ If so.... capital thinking!
To your question regarding large, over-sized animals, the answer is that only two of the four parks actually have these.

Lt Hawthorne, the Captain says as long as the "animals" stalking her are under 6'6", AND she has a phaser set on stun, she thinks she could handle anything Disney throws at her. :guffaw:

Wait just a minute.... it seems Commander Chakotay has been reading the entries being submitted by Lt A.M. G and Lt Admiral Hawthorne and has submitted a holoprogram of his own to help them settle their differences without resorting to arm wrestling.

Hmmm, well now... THAT's an interesting idea, but I'n not really sure the Captain will go for it. Lets see what the crew thinks, okay?

Chakotay says he's willing to write a holoprogram that can be played by individuals only. Its set within the underground caverns of the Kohl settlement. You are one of the three surviving members of a civilization that once numbered 400,000 before the planet was plunged into a new ice age. The ice age is receeding, and Captain Janeway and Voyager have just rescued you from the mad clown known only as "Fear". She's offered you and your colleagues safe passage to a neighboring system, and your two friends have taken her up on it.

You, on the other hand, have decided to stay in the underground caverns, trying to bring the settlement back up to speed before the new colonists come in 10 years.

After Voyager leaves you alone, you decide to take a "break" and attach yourself to the artificial consciousness as if it were your own private holodeck. As you walk through the now empty clown world, you come upon the sight you hoped you'd find.

PLAYER: You show remarkable trust, Captain. How could you be so sure I would keep my word?

JANEWAY: I’ve known fear. It’s a very healthy thing most of the time. You warn us of danger, remind us of our limits, protect us from carelessness. I’ve learned to trust fear.

PLAYER: I always suspected you appreciated me. Am I blushing?

JANEWAY: Let's go.

PLAYER: Yes, yes, of course. I can't wait to get to know you, to make you a part of me.

JANEWAY: As I understand it, it takes a few minutes before you become aware of my thoughts. Is that true?

PLAYER: An eternity of anticipation.

JANEWAY: And then what happens?

PLAYER: And then the fun begins.

(Memo to Kate Mulgrew, the above questionable writing does not reflect my usual fanfic fare, so please don't lump my opus under the smut tagline you've used for other questionable storylines. ;) )

Lt. Commander Rulz,

While I have the utmost confidence in my senior officers, I do have a few concerns about the solution offered by Commander Chakotay. Does the Captain know that Commander Chakotay has such a program? Did he get this idea from Seven of Nine? Has he ever heard the scuttlebutt regarding Lt. Barclay and the Goddess of Empathy? And last, but not least: Why have I never noticed how suggestive that dialogue sounded before now?

I appreciate Commander Chakotay's offer, however, I do not wish to spend the rest of the trip home helping Marla Gilmore degauss the transporter pad with a micro-resonator.

On the other hand, arm wrestling could be a bit of innocent fun. As you know, I've been working out with Captain Janeway for a few months now and I'm seeing some positive results. I would enjoy pitting my new-found upper body strength against a worthy opponent such as Ms. Hawthorne.

Sincerely,
Lt. G-----, Security.

And, OOC:

I believe you will find them to be non-intrusive and a rather delightful addition to the over-all feel of those parks. They do not, however, stalk you. I am uncertain where this impression comes from?

I cannot stop laughing out loud at this.

OOC

My favorite line thus far from myself has been:

If you'd like to test any of these aspects of the program prior to making your decision, I have some beta programs running, and I would be more than happy to show you around the more physical of the activities.

I'm having a blast with this! Aren't you? :biggring:

Lt. Commander Rulz,

I am most concerned by the information you have provided to me. As I understand it, there are rules in place that strictly forbid the use of lifelike resemblances of any members of a starship for personal, pleasurable gain.

Although I appreciate Commander Chakotay's thoughts on this and I would never be so bold as to call my ship's First Officer out on questionable behavior, I must respectfully ask if the Captain is aware that he has such a program at his disposal? If she does not, may I suggest that we dispose of it quickly before she does lest we are all moved to deck 12.

If she is aware, I am confused as to how Commander Chakoty is still among the living.

That being said, I am willing to work with Lt. G----- to come up with a suitable program that incorporates both ideas if the Captain is so of mind. However, I would ask that we have equal billing and say in the project.

Frankly, Lt. G----- is rather intimidating, and I have no desire to go toe-to-toe with someone who has trained in security tactics with Mr. Tuvok.

Although the Captain and I have been playing Velocity on a weekly basis (with some vigor, may I add), I'm not certain I could take Lt. G----- in a hand-to-hand combat situation. Though, I'm not suggesting putting one of us over the other would actually lead to blows.

Please let me know what the Captain would like for us to do.

Regards,

Lt. Hawthorne

I must respectfully ask if the Captain is aware that he has such a program at his disposal?

Actually, he doesn't... yet. As I said,"Chakotay says he's willing to write a holoprogram..."

Lt G.... writes:

Has he ever heard the scuttlebutt regarding Lt. Barclay and the Goddess of Empathy?

Lt. Hawthorne writes:

...if the Captain is aware that he has such a program at his disposal? If she does not, may I suggest that we dispose of it quickly before she does lest we are all moved to deck 12.

Hmmm.

I'm so sorry. I guess there has been a HUGE misunderstanding which Chakotay has DEMANDED I correct before he's sent to deck 12 or placed on permanent degaussing duty.

The character in his proposed holoprogram isn't Captain Kathryn Janeway.

The character is a little known Terran bookseller turned Captain for the program, called Henry Janeway!

Lt. Commander Rulz,

With all due respect, Commander, might I suggest we steer clear of anything that may displease Captain Janeway?

I do believe we all recall what a disaster it was when she finally found out that Michael and the Doctor were the same hologram?

Respectfully,

Lt. Hawthorne
Stellar Cartography

Lt. Commander Rulz,

Thank you for the clarification in re Commander Chakotay's proposed holodeck program. I am relieved to hear that the Commander's suggestions were entirely within the rules. Confidentially, however, allow me to mention that the Captain once showed me a very old family photograph of Henry Janeway, and I have no desire whatsoever to participate in a holodeck program with a character who has those . . . parameters. Please, tell the Commander, "Thanks, but no thanks, sir."

I am intrigued by your suggestion that Lt. Hawthorne and I integrate our programs. I am in favor of this idea. It strikes me that my "Olympic Village Plaza" - the kiosks where crewmembers can learn first hand about a variety of modern cultures - could be included in the part of the Disney simulation that resembles a giant golf ball. (I saw this in the research materials Mr. Paris provided me, and it's my understanding that this massive ball building contains similar cultural exhibits, although I believe they are on a larger scale.) Since Ms. Hawthorne's simulation is supposed to be based in the pre-warp flight era, perhaps my kiosks could comprise a special section called "The World of the Future".

I have grown quite fond of my hot tubs and saunas in the snow, and of my Olympic Ski Lodge with the ballroom, coffee bar, and etc. Perhaps Lt. Hawthorne would be willing to include this establishment and its snowy environs? I understand she plans to have several hotels, anyway. I'd be reluctant to give up the idea of Prixin parties in the Ski Lodge. I know the crew would enjoy them greatly.

I see no reason why we can't also include suggestions from other crew members, such as the lovely hotel suggested by Ensign LeadHead. Ensign Johnson's "Space Invaders" idea looks to me like a 20th century version of Velocity. Perhaps it could be worked in somehow.

Of course, these are minor details. The big question is: Is Lt. Hawthorne willing to have Disney host the Olympics? If so, we will need to insert the programing for my sports arenas into the Disney simulation. It shouldn't be difficult to do, technically speaking. I think the decision will rest on whether or not Lt. Hawthorne feels that the inclusion of the Olympic events will disrupt her theme. I hope this will not be the case. After all, the Olympics are an ancient tradition and were certainly well known to the people of the 20th century.

Perhaps you could pass all this information on to Lt. Hawthorne for me? Please let her know that I will be in the gym with Captain Janeway immediately prior to Alpha shift, but I am available for discussion after Alpha shift ends.

Regards,
Lt. G-----,
Security.

Lt. Commander Rulz,

I apologize for the misunderstanding regarding Commander Chakotay's suggestion. In the future I'll be certain to get clarification on what I may perceive to be questionable issues.

I understand Lt. G----- is interested in the suggestion I gave of combining our two respective programs. The Captain mentioned she also liked the suggestion last night at dinner. I hope it wasn't out of line to mention this to her? I can assure you the Captain was only being curious about the possibilities, and no one heard the conversation. We were the only ones in her quarters at the time.

If Lt. G----- agrees to help with the process of adding her ideas to mine, I think it would be an easy incorporation to have the Olympics at Disney.

Unless you or Commander Chakotay are opposed to the idea, I think the other lieutenant and I could work well together professionally. I would be happy to meet with you and Lt. G----- to discuss this option tomorrow. My shift begins soon, and I have dinner plans again tonight with the Captain.

Apparently, she is very interested in a home state favorite of mine, Texas BBQ.

Respectfully,
Lt. Hawthorne

Commander Rulz,

Thank you again for your assistance in facilitating a co-operative project between Lt. Hawthorne and myself. I believe that the entire crew will benefit from our joint efforts at creating a holoprogram. We will keep you informed of our progress, and of course, we will expect to see you at the Opening Ceremonies.

Additionally, allow me to congratulate you on your recent assignment as Morale Officer. I am sure Neelix is quite happy to be able to spend more time in his kitchen, and I am confident that you will do an outstanding job.

Sincerely,

Lt. Hawthorne,

I want to thank you for your gracious attitude toward a co-operative project between us. There are, however, two points that I want to clarify before we finalize our joint plan and present it to Captain Janeway.

1. I would like to have the "Disney Characters" kept at a distance from the Olympic events and the Ski Lodge area. It will be especially important to keep them away from the archery range. Commander Tuvok and I intend to hold archery training there for the security team, and we certainly don't need little Naomi Wildman to wander in and witness one of us shooting "Donald Duck" through the head with an arrow.

2. As you may be aware, I am also from Earth, specifically, from the coast of North Carolina. I value the Federation's policy of embracing cultural diversity, and would never dream of protesting against your idea of serving Texas style BBQ in the Disney simulation, no matter what my personal feelings about that dish might be. I hope that you will join with me in a spirit of embracing diversity and allow me to serve traditional North Carolina style BBQ alongside your dish in the holo-program. Although Beef & Tomatoes may never see eye-to-eye with Pork & Vinegar, perhaps we can enjoy a big plate of hushpuppies together and make a toast to diversity with our sweet iced tea.

Or perhaps we will have to resort to arm wrestling, after all.

Looking forward to your response,
Lt. G-----

Lt. Commander Rulz,

I appreciate your mediation of our efforts to form a cohesive project plan for the combining of both my and Lt. G-----'s holoprograms.

Your level hardheadedness during negotiations is much appreciated. I hope you're not too upset that I mentioned this to Captain Janeway this morning when we met for coffee before shift?

I see she has promoted you to Morale Officer. I hope that working with Neelix will not be as daunting as working with me and Lt. G----- has been!

Congratulations on the promotion,

Lt. Hawthorne

Lt. G-----,

I see no problem keeping the animals away from the Ski Lodge area. Frankly, I think the idea of having a giant mouse head looking at me as I try to relax in a sauna unappealing as well.

I would like to point out that I only served the BBQ to Captain Janeway last night. Whether she decides she would like to see it added to the menu in our simulation is, of course, up the Captain's discretion.

She does, however, seem to have a penchant for Texan. But, as you well know, the Captain has always had good taste.

Regards,

Lt. Hawthorne

Lt. Hawthorne,

I am glad to hear we are in agreement on the giant animals.

As for the BBQ, your timing is excellent. I had already planned to serve the Captain North Carolina BBQ for dinner this evening. She will have plenty of time to consider her decision before making her final announcement regarding the holoprogram.

Of course, once we explain to the Captain that BBQ is a near-sacred tradition to both our peoples, I am sure she will be willing to compromise and allow both variations in the holodeck. I have always found the Captain to be a very flexible woman.

Regards,
Lt. G-----

Lt. G-----,

I primarily want to see the animals there for the children's benefit. So, I had no problem agreeing.

It's interesting that you mention that you are going to have dinner with the Captain tonight. When we were at lunch, she mentioned she had dinner plans tonight. I'm sure she will be happy to have BBQ two nights in a row.

Of course, I think you are correct. Once she knows how important a tradition BBQ is for both of our peoples, she will more than likely simply give the go ahead to have both available. In fact, I have no doubt that she will also enjoy your take on this food and will probably continue to enjoy both types. I have always found the Captain to be excellent at switching.

Regards,
Lt. Hawthorne

MEMO FROM THE OFFICE OF CAPTAIN KATHRYN JANEWAY.

RE: Lt Commander JRulz! Demotion

It is with sad regret that I have been forced to demote the Lt Commander to crewman on the Equinox degaussing team and have revoked all holodeck privileges for the next 5 years.

Any rumors that this has to do with a previously unknown holoprogram that was brought to my attention by a Lt in Stellar Cartography and one in Security is completely false. It was because she failed spectacularly in her recent job as my personal moral officer.

Sincerely,

Captain Kathryn Janeway.

USS Voyager.
