Confessions: You do it and you know it is bad

I have been ducking my in-laws for weeks. I have no desire to see them at ALL; I can barely keep my temper around those crazy, stupid fuckheads, so I always have a logical reason, which hubby buys (or at least pretends to), so I don't have to be around them.

Regarding in-laws: I realized, after my divorce I might add, that my in-laws were a bunch of haughty, stuffed shirts, more conscious about image than anything else.

The fact that I don't have a PhD from an Ivy League college and don't waste money just to have the newest and most expensive clothes, gadgets, tech, etc. turned my ex and them off.

Oh well, plenty of fish out there.

^Yeah, sounds as if you're better off without them. My in-laws are pretty much the opposite, in that they dislike me because I have the audacity to be middle-class and educated, thereby despoiling their staunchly working class, socialist labour (I'm talking WAY out in left field) household. Shame on me.

This happened a long, long time ago. I saved up $250 to upgrade my CPU, and took it to the counter. I was bs'ing with the clerk about something or other, wrote out a check, he bagged the chip, and I left. A few weeks after enjoying my rocking new 150Mhz CPU (yes, indeed), I noticed that the check wasn't cashed. I opened my checkbook, and was greeted by the check I had written for the CPU and never even took out of the book.

I wouldn't' do this today, but at the time I was like "pshhhh! Sucks to be them!" :)

My husband is very "careful" with the heating of the house. When he's away overnight for work I put it all on full blast. It's just awesome to have a beautifully warm house for a change. Also, he wants to eat healthily so bans the "bad stuff" from the house. I still buy all that stuff but I leave it at work.

^I once lived with someone who kept the house at freezing temperatures. Whenever they were gone I would crank it up HIGH and crank it down about an hour before they were due back.

Reminds me of my youth: Dad would sit there in his open shirt and demand of us not to waste energy on higher indoor temperatures despite mum, sis and I wearing three layers and blankets and comforters and duvets...

Oh well, the seventies and their energy crises was a different era.

^ Sounds like your dad's body thermostat is set differently than the rest of the family's. You'd hate how cool I keep my house.

I have to admit, I am one of the ones who likes the temperature freakishly cold. If my room is warmer than 65 degrees I can't sleep. We keep the apartment at 68-70, and I keep my bedroom window open, even throughout winter. I figure, we save money, and if you're cold you can always put on a sweater or a blanket, or take a hot shower. When you're too hot there's not much you can do about it.

As of right now I have 15 °C in the bathroom, 21 °C in the living room and 11 °C in the bedroom. I only heat the living room and there's a window open in the bedroom to the -4 °C outside.

That's a bit chilly in the living room, but I probably should put on some socks and a shirt...

Yeah we keep our house at 21 during the day, and everyone else is wandering around in shorts and a t-shirt while I'm wearing two fleeces!

(sorry, don't have any confessions :alienblush:)

That sounds just like me.

My comfort zone is in the low 60s. My girlfriend likes to keep her bedroom in the high 70s and still sleeps under thick blankets.

When we're together, we compromise and set the thermostat around 70. :p

I tend to keep my heat at a lower level (65), but when my girlfriend is over, I do turn it up. Everybody has different tolerances, and what is just fine for me has her with hands and feet like ice bergs.

Wow. Did he mention his other wife in Michigan he does the same thing to?;)

My hubs keeps the house at 62. I know he's coming down with a cold when he turns it up to 66 or 68! The refrigerator at home is full of green things! The fridge at work s full of yummy stuff!

It seems to have rubbed off onto son, he keeps his at 55. He's also flirting with vegetarianism. He could follow the example of far worse!

We can seldom get i below 70 in our place. We're at the top so a lot fthe excess heat from below just funnels up to our place. Which is nice in winter but a bitch in summer.

I usually like it pretty cold in my bedroom as well, if it's to warm I just can't sleep. Also haven't used a normal cover in years. Usually just go with two empty covers in winter and one in summer.

And the thing to do when you're too hot is obviously to knowledge it and own it.

That is something I have no tolerance for any more, when one's partner goes on some crusade and expects everyone to follow or even just makes comments if you're doing that unhealthy thing they are now above doing. I'm like a rebellious teenager when faced with that shit.

The temperature is always what I want it to be. Now that I'm on my own, I almost always have the heater off and the window open. It's chilly, but both I and the cat are happy.
