CONFESSIONAL thread (ANONYMOUS so tell us the juicy stuff!)

Not really a fair comparison. That's like saying Canadian beer is better because my local microbrewery is better than Colt 45

To wit, saying Canadian beer > American beer isn't a fair comparison, either.

I'm American, I live in Canada, those are two of the main countries in which I drink their beer, it's a fair statement when comparing the two. If I hadn't tasted both, I would understand the unfairness, but I've had both and it's simply my opinion.

American beer is like water.

Go buy Dogfish Head (either 60 minute or 90 minute IPA) and then get back to me. America has good beer, you just have to know where to look.

What American beers have you tried? I think you just haven't sampled the right ones (Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Red Hook, Great Lakes, Saranac, etc.).

Yeungling!

Exactly. It's not for nothing Dutch beer like Heineken or Grolsch sells so well over there. Though even those aren't "real beer"; for that, you'll have to look at Belgian beers, like Duvel. Now that's beer.

Of course, I'm not a beer snob, I don't know all beers that exist. :D

I will definitely go back to the US at some point though, I thought Atlanta was awesome and I need to see as much as I can of the rest of the country at some point. Plus I have to meet as many of the people on these boards as I can possibly take
Me too, of course. I even have relatives there. But I'm a little nervous about US customs now.

Is this a misquote? Looks like it. We're talking about confessions, not airport security.
That's easily checked. Click the little arrow next to the quoted poster's username. Yes it was on page 1 and I didn't get any further than that. Clearly, I didn't have the time to read 30 pages and this is what I replied to so sue me. It's the OP's business to say if we're off-topic more than yours. :p
And I considered the stuff I wrote about the way I handled my MA research to be a confession. Unless you think such light behaviour is the rule. :alienblush:

No harm in ria75 telling her airport security. Besides, being pulled over by airport security is a confession.
Well, I must've skipped a page or two because I don't remember anyone confessing to an airport security "incident." Posters were talking about the philandering husband who couldn't keep his pants on, the married bisexual love affair, the whiny person complaining about Trek fans' attitudes, etc. Did I miss anything?

Oh, it's from ages ago - possibly the first two pages. Emher's story is a genuine confession (although public) because what he was pulled over for by security is carrying a dildo.

The first page in fact - post number 16

(If ria 75 has just read this entire thread in one go, I think she'll need to lie down in a quiet room for a while!)
He he, thanks for the help, TrampleDamage.
No, I didn't go deeper into the thread until today because I was really supposed to be working at the time.
Sorry, Drone36929, I don't have anything more juicy. Hold on... I just thought of something, but I'm ashamed of PMing it to Holdfast. Too juicy...
I may think of something milder.

Me too, but I'll think things trough before going trough customs next time. Besides it's inevitable that I will go back, my friends accuse me of being a secret American

This is your blinking fault Holdfast.

Everyone always says that, but they keep coming back for more! :p

Talking of which, our previous confessor with a crush has a follow-up for all the doubting meanies:

To the people making fun of me for my TrekBBS crush, I expected this place to me more mature than that.

I am not going to court her in any way or break up her relationship (didn't know she was in one), I was just confessing something that has been on my mind for a while. I wouldn't travel to her country or bother her in any way. I will just enjoy her posts and this was just to let her know that there is someone here who thinks she is attractive in many ways, which is flattering, not scary.

Don't you all feel ASHAMED of yourselves now? Go look in a mirror or something, people. :p ;)

Do remember that not everyone post in this thread; there are bound to be more lurkers then posters. So, anonymous-who-has-a-crush: not everyone is being immature about it; most simply don't react on it.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me personally, there are distinct differences between this and the earlier post. The earlier one was framed by references to love, whereas this one defines it as more of a crush. These are two different things, with different intensities. If someone here had a crush on me, I'd be flattered. If they felt that they loved me, I'd worry that they were mistaking infatuation for something else.

Only you know your feelings. That's all it really comes down to.

Actually, the mature thing is to say nothing. You are just inviting more of such remarks. Like some just said, most posters didn't even say anything. And alot of those who made fun made several follow up posts. Just ingore it.

I agree. When it comes to romantic feelings there's a difference when using words. Even love has various meanings. For example, there are some friends I have, both male and female, whom I love but I am not in love with, y'know?

Since posting most often brings out the worst in us, posting is similar to baiting and offering one's cheek to be slapped. So one has to be into exchanging more or less friendly slaps, y'know? Or ready to expose themselves to (mis)interpretation. Which is what we do best here. Besides the purposeful teasing and outright critical jabs.

Not to compare us to the 3 Stooges, but... I can't help thinking about it.
