Deadline| Conan The Barbarian TV Series In Works At Netflix

Netflix struck a deal with Conan Properties International and its parent company Cabinet Entertainment for the rights to do live-action and animated films and series on Conan and other characters created by Robert E. Howard, as well as the rights to adapt any of the stories. A live-action show is now in development, with Pathfinder Media set to produce. Now they are looking for a writer/showrunner (since I'm not an option for them, I nominate Marc Bernardin).

So, of course, I want this now, today, put it in my veins. Sadly, since they're just about getting started, it may take a couple of years before we'll be able to see this (if it's not abandoned like the Amazon series a couple of years ago).

I actually remember enjoying that series back in the day. I don't remember what about I enjoyed but I do remember enjoying. All I really recall are Ralf Möller, Danny Woodburn, and Jeremy Kemp and that's it.

They did use the Karella character from the Robert Jordan Conan novels in a recurring role. They also did a free adaptation of The Tower of the Elephant for the pilot, and the second episode Lair of the Beastmen was an adaptation of the second issue of the Marvel Comics' Conan the Barbarian series, Lair of the Beast-Men!. Roy Thomas was also a producer on the pilot, and he wrote an episode featuring Red Sonja.
I liked it. It's not quite the real Conan, which was impossible on TV at the time, but it's campy Sword & Sorcery fun.

Still, I'm really hoping this new show will be closer to Robert E. Howard's original stories.

I'm not super familiar with the character, but I know enough to be very curious about this.

Hopefully they stick to Howard's stories as much as they can, and I'd love to see them use the "Darkstorm" chronology by Dale Rippke, like Dark Horse did when they published their comic series.

You take out Arnold and the 80's vibe, I'm not sure there's much left there that is interesting enough to do a series on.
Conan stories existed long before the '80s, and have continued long past the '80s, so I don't really see where that is needed for a Conan stories to be successful.

Just my opinion.

Of course, I was just point out that Conan isn't a uniquely '80s franchise.

A series that takes him from Cimmerian savage to king of Aquilonia could be great. Shows like Game of Thrones, Vikings, The Last Kingdom show there's a market out there for Conan but leave the 80s/90s vibe back there. Hopefully, they can get this off the ground but Conan and Red Sonja have been in development hell ever since the oceans drank Atlantis.

Now just cast Jason momoa as... Nevermind..:p
As long as they stick better to the books and comics. But they probably will at least do some lip service to the 80s version.. Which I don't mind, liked both. Now just stay away from that newish one.. I mean love some Jason momoa and he was good in the part but blah was that awefull.

Yeah, the Momoa movie was bad but Momoa himself was a good choice for Conan. His performance was closer to Conan's actual personality than Arnold's was.

Mamoa looked more like Conan of the books than Arnold. His only drawback as such was he was too handsome for Conan. Like Hugh Jackman for Wolverine.

If there's one thing from the Schwarzenegger movie I don't want to see again, it's that fucking revenge story line, which they for some reason still used for the Momoa movie. I also would prefer Conan not hearing a prophecy about him becoming King. Two things from the Schwarzenegger movie I'd be totally up for in the new show is the music (at least stylistically based on Polidouris would be fine), and the Atlantean Sword, that looked really cool and is my favorite movie sword.

One thing to note is that the production company is the same as the proposed Amazon series, so they might already have a lot to work with, making pre-production quicker. I've heard rumors they even shot an adaptation of The Frost-Giant's Daughter as a pilot before Amazon passed on it, though I've never seen anything of it (if you look on YouTube, you may find a fan-produced adaptation).

Part of me is wishing this were a CGI animated show, since the Cinematic Trailer for the Conan Exiles game showed a near-photorealistic version of a John Buscema-Conan:
