Computer Platform Distain

I'm currently using MSDOS 5.1(XT's), 6.1/win 3.0 PCDOS 2000/Win3.11 for Workgroups, Win 95(386,486, P-I), Win98SE, Win2K, Win XP, OS/2 Warp 3.0, Deli Linux, Suse Linux, Xubuntu Linux 6.06 LTS and 8.04, and Vektor Linux,(P-II, AMD dual core 4450e) I own Atari 8 and 16/32 bit machines, Commodore 64's MSX-1 machines and I'm going to get a G3 iMac sometime, I don't have any problems with any of the machines or the OS's, they all got their strong points and weaknesses and the same goes for the various platforms, diversity is the best thing there is, keeps everyone on their toes and creates the need for innovation.

The only thing I very much hate is bloatware.

I have no problem with OSX, I have a problem with the price of a new Mac vs. a PC and the Ron Paul-like obsession Mac fans seem to have. Many view them as some kind of fashion statement and all I need is a tool that completes many cycles per second and throws them up on a nice screen.

I find Windows easy to use after 20 years of practise and XP SP3 is stable as hell. I have not had many problems with Windows over the years that weren't directly attributable to something dumb I did. I fail to see how switching to a Mac will prevent me from doing stupid things.

But if something magic came along tomorrow that would run all Windows-compatible software with an easier to use interface I wouldn't be against giving it a whirl, I have no inherant loyalty to the company. Have no hatred for them either, which seems to put me in small company here on the net. Ironically, most of these haters have a "green" start button down in the left corner of their GUI and have a copy of MS Office on their computer (legal or not).

I know we've had our linguistic arguments in the past, but I agree with you on a number of points here. All that's needed is a tool that can complete numerous computation cycles per second and display it all on a nice screen. Also, Windows XP is very stable, and most things that go wrong can usually be attributed to the user. And if something came along that would run all Windows-compatible software with an easier to use interface I wouldn't be against giving it a try as I have no inherient loyalty, or hatred of, Microsoft.

While PEBKAC problems are certainly common, I've seen my share of completely inexplicable issues on both platforms. A few more on Windows than OSX, but it doesn't have a monopoly on bugs.
