Compliment + Time = Condescension

^ First I've heard of it; given that I'd never heard it used that way outside TPM and the associated marketing deluge, I figured it was a in-universe term. Speaking of the Brits, didn't the Beatles try doing something like that - introducing a new word for 'cool'. Can't recall what it was... 'gear', maybe?

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

you've never seen a WW2 movie where some RAF pilot says something about a 'wizard prang over the Channel with the Jerries'?

^ Nope. Then again, I understood so little of that statement, I'm not sure I would have remembered if I had.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

'wizard prang' = good battle

'Channel' = The English Channel, a body of water seperating the British Isles from Mainland Europe

'Jerries' = Germans

"That's just awesome!"

---
The first time I'd heard the word Jerries in reference to Germans was in the video game Call of Duty. I was like WTF?! Then realized it was actually a term used and was supposed to help make the game more 'real'.

Thanks; the last two I knew (I didn't spend all my life under this rock), but I needed translation on that first part. ;)

Oh, it's still a derogatory term. That those three boneheads are too dense to realize it is unsurprising.

Boneheads?:wtf: BONEHEADS!?

(Speaks in deep, menacing voice)

HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY CHILDHOOD HEROES? GRRRRRRRRRRR!:klingon:

(Becomes the Hulk)

YOU MAKE HULK ANGRY! HULK WOULD KILL YOU WHERE YOU STAND!!!

But first...Hulk must visit waste extraction.:p

(Old joke. You can find it in Legends of the Ferengi.)

Now, considering how this board has basically become about sarcasm, I'll cut ya a little break.;) I'm sure you didn't really mean to imply that the most intelegent minds in media are idiots, right?

(Hulk voice) RIGHT???

Does anyone else find it ironic that, in attempting to assert these three were "intelligent", he misspelled the word?

The gay thing? I went to college in both Canada and England, it's quite amusing because in Canada, they said they'd reclaimed the word 'queer' and called their society the 'queer collective' despite the connotations to the word queer being that there was something funny or wrong about it whilst in England, queer is still offensive but it's the word gay (which was still found offensive in Canada) which has been reclaimed and isn't seen as insulting.

She might not, but I will. And I have no doubt that they spell "intelligent" exactly the way you do.

BTW, I think that yours is the perfect name for a Rush-ophile, as Mr. Limpbone, er, ah, I mean Limbaugh has always excelled at creating mindless drones.

Or does he simply recruit them...?

How does someone whose join date was yesterday have any idea what this board has or hasn't become?

"Prang" = crash, at least in Australia. As in " Did you see the prang on the highway?" or "I pranged my car".

So I would read "wizard prang over the Channel with the Jerries'?..." to be a fighter crashing into the Channel during an aerial battle with the Germans.

well, yeah, we use prang as in an accident, but that's always been my interpertation of the stereotypical RAF 'Few' pilot line of a 'wizard prang'...

chocks away, lads! back in time for tea and tiffin, eh, what?

Childhood? Oh. You must be young. Maybe you'll grow out of it.

Oh? Is your signature file supposed to be raising the tone in that regard?

I'm sure you didn't really mean to imply that the most intelegent minds in media are idiots, right?
As someone else pointed out, it's spelled "intelligent." Considering them to be idiots is giving them the benefit of the doubt. There's a wise old saying, never attribute to malice that which you can attribute to stupidity. But if you're sure they're not stupid, I'm willing to believe they're malicious.

So, Rush Limborg, have you read any Star Trek books lately? Would you like to discuss them? This is the Trek Lit forum, after all.

I would think that a "wizard prang..." coming from a RAF pilot in that type of context, would have been referring to a Gerry aircraft losing the engagement and going into the drink, and the Allied aircraft surviving to fight another day.

Oops. My bad. My spelling IS a little wobbly. (You'd be suprised at how often I've had to rely on the MS Word spell-checker!) Sorry.

Intelligent. Gotta remember that.

(Sighs, shakes his head) Look...I like a wisecrack as well as the next, but... that wasn't very funny.

And if it wasn't meant to be... well, I guess there's nothing I can do about it....

Childhood? Oh. You must be young. Maybe you'll grow out of it.

Not that young. Rush started his show back in '88. I was born in '90. And actually, I only started listening to him a few years back. As Spock would say, "I exaggerated.":vulcan:

Nah. I probably won't grow out of it. But don't worry. I'll manage!

Oh? Is your signature file supposed to be raising the tone in that regard?

Not really. My comment about "cutting you a break" was pure sarcasm. If it was made in bad taste, then I apologize.

Well...you could say that. Rush and Beck are certainly aggressive. But then, so is Worf.:klingon: And IMHO, Klingons are AWESOME!

And Hannity? Actually, he's pretty darn polite. He's aggressive when he has to be, but he's usually a really nice guy.

So, Rush Limborg, have you read any Star Trek books lately? Would you like to discuss them? This is the Trek Lit forum, after all.

Well, I wouldn't really be here if I wasn't such a lover of Trek Books, eh?:D And yes, I'll gladly put all this behind me, and start CONTRIBUTING once again.

OKAY! Now, back on topic, it's interesting how people sometimes use the term "literal", when they really mean "figurative". As in "That dude's so fast, he's a literal Road Runner!"

Meep-meep!

If Rush has been on the air longer than you've been alive, then yes, you are that young.

Yeah, and if Star Trek introduced an alien race that sat on their fat asses all day, shouting their opinions and telling the science officers everything they knew was wrong, how popular would they be?

There are a lot of adults posting here, so, yeah, born in 1990 is young. Plenty of time for reality (which has a well-known liberal bias) to sink in.

Better yet, how about a bunch of Klingons who call for war and blood and glory but say, oh, I can't actually go and fight because, well, I have better things to do, and, oh yeah, there's that really nasty hemorrhoid, but I'm with you Klingon soldiers in spirit!
