Completed Ertl Enterprise E

CaptainHawk1

Commodore
Here's my completed ENT E. I'm not exceptionally thrilled with the photos I took but we have saying on Earth... c'est la vie.

The detail of the kit was done with decals created by Jon known as Trekjunkie over at http://starshipmodeler.net and the detail decals made by PNT. I made several mistakes that I'm not happy with that were due to my own impatience but overall it's pretty good. As much as possible I tried to keep the detail consistent with the closeups of the filming model that I have.

3 unique things about this kit: First the pylons are aftermarket pylons avaialble from http://federationmodels.com. Second, you'll notice that the defelctor dish is painted copper. I did this because the filming model is actually that color and frankly, I'm kind of sick of always "lighting up" a deflector dish and I wanted it to look unique.

Third, that guy Trekjunkie also made a fantastic set of aftermarket parts to accurize this kit a la Nemesis (I think). The problem is that Jon has never mass-casted anything before so they came out like shit and absolutely unusable. I got the bad batch and thank God I did because I had made the mistake of assembling the engineering section without installing the kit's deflector dish in to the deflector trench piece. So, ironically enough, the one really good piece that I got from Jon was a perfectly intact deflector dish attached the deflectior dish. I Dremeled the thing off, sanded it down and used a piece of flat styrene to cover the whole left in the kit deflector trench where the dish is supposed to go, glued the resin dish to and voila, a deflector dish 10 x's better than that crappy clear part.

Great job on that! Sucks that you got one of Jon's crappy kits, but at least you got...some...use out of it.

Yeah... I was one of his first customers and he gave me the parts for free so no complaints. Truthfully, I hope he gets somebody commissioned soon to cast those parts because they are friggin' nice.

Very nice dude, likin' that a lot. E-E is a very cool design IMO, and a fine job you've done of 'er. :)

Ah yes, my practical days... ;)

Very nice. Since I'll probably never be able to afford on e of REL's models, I may just have to build this one (I have a kit just sitting in my bedroom). Did you have to paint much of anything with this model? In other words, it appears to me that most of the model is decaled, correct?

I hate painting. I love decaling, though, so yes, you're assumption is correct. The overall color of the hull, the nacelles, the deflector dish, the impulse engines, some of the windows and the bussard colletors (red with a decal over them) are the only things I painted.

Actually, most of the decals I used were made by TrekJunkie who is a bbs member over at SSM. I have the PNT sheet and the only decals I used of it were the registry details on the aft end of the nacelles, the pennants and some of the phaser warning markings. The reason I did this is because TrekJunkie prints up his decals on an inkjet printer and his lettering and pennants come out fuzzy.

The last time I checked, John (Trekjunkie) was getting his decals in the SSM store. If you can't find them there, let me know via PM and I will send you his email address.

Great work on your E-E, Shawn! She turned out looking awesome. Nothing to be disappointed in from what I can see!

I take it that John is John Rigoni?

In any case, you have a beautiful model there... nice work.

I dislike the design of the Enterprise-E, but your model looks cool. :)

Here's my completed ENT E.

No... I forgot his last name, but that's not it. I'll have to look at the return address on his envelope.

I tried to send you a PM but apparently you have PM's disabled.

-Shawn :borg:

Cadets don't get PM's; they don't get them until 50 posts and (maybe) 2 weeks.
