That and Trekking Down the Narada are my favorite cues.

I'm also pleasantly surprised by some of the unused material, such as "Head to Heart Communication" and the additional material in "Heading into a Trlblfl", which has a rather badass Nero Brass moment (going up the scale instead of down).

I also like the use of the Erhu for Nero's theme during "World's Worst Sushi Bar" (the torture/exposition scene).
 
Got it today. Was surprised how wide the thing is, but the presentation sure is cool.

So far I've listened to half of the first disc, and am liking it very much. The mixing strikes me as different than it was on the OST, though I could be mistaken.
 
I've had disc 2 of this set on repeat in my car for a week now. Trekking Down the Narada is incredible, I Gotta Beam Me is great. I really like almost all the new music included in this set, I only have two complaints:

1. Several of the tracks from the original CD that were different in the film are on this set in their CD versions, not the film versions.

2. The Giacchino track titles for the new tracks are even dumber than the tracks on the original cd - Hack to the Future? Narada Boom? I Gotta Beam Me? Ugh.

The more I think about it, the more dumb it sounds. Like the moment when Prime Spock finds NuKirk, it has a nice tune to it that's kind of heart warming. If someone asked me which track that was, I'd feel dumb saying "You snowing me?". Sigh.
 
"Dad's route to school", becuase your dad always told you how he had to walk 10 miles in the snow to school when he was young. LOL
 
I like the cue titles. It reminds us not to take it all too seriously.

It makes no difference to the underlying music.

The cues are actually what was written for the movie, but overlays, inserts and choir were added to the mix.

There are a couple of exceptions, such as "The Flask At Hand", which was partially replaced by the first version of the Main Title, but a lot of the score was simply re-edited after scoring as the movie was being tweaked.

Just put in an order for this.

It's funny. I was just watching the film a couple of days ago, and thinking that it would have been nice to have more of the music included inthe ost, and here we are!

I report the arrival Down Under, direct from Varese Sarabande to my mail box in Sydney, the "Deluxe Edition" of Michael Giacchino's 2-disc soundtrack to JJ's "Star Trek". It comes in a landscape-oriented hardcover book, filled with 26 glossy pages of photos and production notes. Handsome! At first glance you'd barely think of this as a CD.

Off to play it now!

They definitely get an A+ for presentation. It's a very nice looking set.
 
Fantastic score. This is brilliant. All the criticism heaped upon this music when the film was released is blown away by the deluxe set. Critics bought the original release and reviewed that rather than what was in the film, something I commented upon in other places repeatedly - "there's more music than what's on the CD and it's great. You can't really tell in the movie, because so much is going on in the film, that the score plays on you psychologically rather than as another character in the movie (ex LOTR)".

This was the most underrated score of 2009. I am so glad the deluxe version was released. The repetitions make sense when you hear the complete score. The action sequences highlight its effectiveness.

The composer deserves an apology from soundtrack film critics.

This is great music and I couldn't recommend it more highly. I hope they make more than 5000 copies. More people need to hear this!
 
Mine just arrived today. I am anxious to hear the differences everyone here is talking about.
 
I've seen a number of posts in various places noting that the score is a different beast when heard in a more complete form.

The OST was good, but so obviously failed to adequately present the score.

There are some minor issues with the Deluxe Edition, but they really are minor, and none of them actually bother me at all.

It's only because I listened closely to the score in the move that the DE was not a revelation to me.

Nevertheless, there were a number of surprises, especially the beginning of Trekking Down The Narada, and realizing just how much the score was chopped up in the movie.
 
Finally got mine in today's mail. I love the packaging, I've got the first disc in now, and it is far superior to what we got when the movie came out. I've only heard about five tracks so far, and I highly recommend this.
