Commentary on the current state of Star Wars continuity(some spoilers)

Re: Commentary on the current state of Star Wars continuity(some spoil

Remember, anger leads to the dark side.

Re: Commentary on the current state of Star Wars continuity(some spoil

^ Bull-shlock!!

Obi-wan got angry with Anakin all the time and he didn't fall to the dark side

Re: Commentary on the current state of Star Wars continuity(some spoil

Okay okay, anger leads to the dark side...unless you're Obi.

Happy now?

Besides, that wasn't anger, it was love. And worry. He was like a brother to him, dammit.

(xD)

Or Samuel L Jackson.

Or Yoda

Happy now?

No. I'm a miserable git

Yeah, he was like a brother to him. Sorta. It's a pity we didn't see their friendship grow, we're just told about how it grew. We're only told Something about anakin being in obi-wan's outer rim.

I mean, anakin in the outer rim with obi-wan!

It does sound to me like SW canon is beginning to look more and more like Trek canon, i.e. only the movies and TV shows really count.

^ Star Wars canon has always kind of been like that. There has been a loose understanding about the EU in recent years but ultimately George Lucas has final decision on what is continuity and what isn't. Some EU material has found it's way into the Clone Wars for example.

I distinctly remember reading an old quote from Lucas, saying: "Only what you see in the movies is 'real'."

I guess that's one of the reasons I never got into EU.

But when it comes to CW, here's what he said (from SW Insider):
"This is Star Wars, and I don't make a distinction between the series and the films. The Movies are just the tip of the iceberg."

It's kinda different with ST... Trek lit not being canon never bothered me.

Re: Commentary on the current state of Star Wars continuity(some spoil

Some of us do actually care about loved past stories being essentially trashed by revisionist thinking.
This.

Well. Then stop now. Stop reading/watching any new Star Wars material, because the revision will continue. I don't mean to sound flip, but, if you're unhappy that fictional stories are being ignored as new fictional stories are being written, what's your option? Continue to consume new material and be unhappy? That sounds awful.

Or... take a breath and say, it's not worth being unhappy so either I'm done with Star Wars or I'm just going to enjoy the ride no matter what.

Re: Commentary on the current state of Star Wars continuity(some spoil

I just consider both versions of the Clone Wars (The 2003-2008 continuity and the current one) seperate continuities (or universes), really. "Infinities" opened the door for that kind of thing in the franchise, anyway.

Doctor Who fans have been doing that for a while with the Eighth Doctor's adventures (The audios, novels, and comics featuring Paul Mcgann's Doctor don't exactly gel together), and Star Trek of course has dealt with alternate universes, with of course the new Trek and many, many other examples.

Oh you got me all wrong there Professor. I was being sarcastic. *oops*

@Mach5 - don't worry, I still don't care about EU (except kotor, that's my baby).

The KOTOR/TOR saga is a pretty cool era-both the Jedi and the Sith at the height of their power. Although the fact that the technology doesn't seem to have changed at all in millenia is a bit weird. I actually think the art styles of the Tales of the Jedi comics (Which take place in that era as well) help make that transition a bit more believable.

It's the same with universal translator. Just ignore it.
