Command in "Chain of Command"

Bry_Sinclair

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Reading another thread, an idea popped into my head.

When Picard, Crusher and Worf were sent off on their mission, would it not have been great to have seen Vice Admiral Alynna Nechayev assume command of the Enterprise for the duration of the mission?

I'd love to have seen her in action as she is by far and away my favourite member of the admiralty.

Jellico I don't mind, but think it would've been more interesting to have had Riker spit out his dummy and go into a huff with someone he visually loomed over, only to be slapped down by someone with even greater clout.

Natalija Nogulich definitely had the acting chops to do it, but Ronny Cox was a bigger name at the time. Nechayev probably had too much paperwork to do supervising the whole undercover mission to be stuck on a ship's bridge.

Personally I think it would've worked well, but Ronny Cox is pretty stellar. There's also the aspect of "Admiral X throws their weight around" which has been tossed around quite a bit in Star Trek

I like how this played out better. The bureaucrats hand down a totally off the cuff mandate that is a really hard pill to swallow for everyone... including Picard, Riker & Jellico. Nobody is getting a pleasant experience out of this deal, and surely would've preferred different circumstances

That's a much better analogy for how shit goes down in the real world

As much as I dislike what Jellico does when he arrives on the Enterprise it's great to watch him so I'd prefer him to the Admiral.

Well, thanks for the information.:bolian:

Although he was playing a decidedly unpopular character, it was great seeing Ronny Cox on Trek. I think he pulled off the Character of Jelico perfectly.

That said, more Nechayev is always welcome, Great character and my favorite TNG Admiral

Even though Picard will always be the best in terms of handling his crew and patience, I thought this admiral was pretty believable as his role.

Although he was playing a decidedly unpopular character ...
Speak for yourself love, I adored Jellico during his brief command of the Enterprise. This was the episode that made me seriously start wondering if Picard's command style was the exception among Starfleet captains.

:)
