To be honest, that's pretty much what I was expecting the cover to be like.

Yup - that seems to be what Trek covers look like these days...

Uh, I don't really like that cover. Archer looks like his dog just died.

Very dissapoiting cover, but then again, we don't buy TrekLit for the covers, but for the words. :)

    Real disappointing.

Great way to snare readers who may not otherwise pick up a Trek book. Sad Archer portrait. Think Pocket needs someone new to commission the covers for these books.

I would have prefer something more overtly patriotically Federation-y, but it's not awful. Bakula's image may well draw some sales.

^We wanted to put a Federation logo in the background, but they couldn't find good reference for the 2161-era logo glimpsed in "These Are the Voyages."

An NX-refit would have worked too. Or a Daedalus. Just saying.

Or at least beamed into transporter oblivion as part of some weird experiment. ;)

Well that's a 5-minute Photoshop cover. Ah well. It's all about the worlds.

Just a thought, but wouldn't Mike and Denise Okuda have all the reference material you'd need? They're easily reachable on Facebook. I would have assumed they designed that logo.

I have little information about the cover design process. I just know what they tell me.

It's not bad, but it would have been but it would have been nice to get something more than just a portrait. Honestly, I think the cover for Beneath The Raptor's Wing would have been pretty good for this.

I guess I'll echo everyone else with my disappointment for the cover... it's kind of bland and uninspiring. With a title like "Rise of the Federation", they could have done so much more.

Just to be clear, though: still very much looking forward to the book itself! :techman:

Except that Archer's in an Earth Starfleet uniform there, and T'Pau and Gral are not in RotF:ACoF.

Granted, Archer's in an Earth Starfleet dress uniform on the ACoF cover, rather than the Federation Starfleet uniform he wears in the novel, but it's the uniform he wore at the UFP founding in TATV, so at least it's from the same decade.

Yeah, I really expected the "RISE OF THE FEDERATION" part of the title to be bigger and bolder. And a Federation logo (even if they couldn't get the 21st Century version). Something that might grab the more casual Trek fan to read about the birth of the Federation, even if they're not a big Enterprise fan. This cover really doesn't capture any of that.

Ah well. As everyone has said, it's the story that counts, and I for one am still very excited about it and eagerly looking forward to it!
