Coming in 4K - Star Trek's 1-IV??

Weird. Maybe some intern took the wrong art off a Google Image search?

ST5 looks wrong too - look at the font on the film title! Like a bad knock off.

Hopefully just placeholder images.

The Director’s Edition used to be available as a separate purchase on iTunes, before it was included as an extra on the theatrical cut. In fact, I still have it in my iTunes purchase library. I’ll be curious to see if this changes to the 2022 version, even if it stays stuck on SD res.

One difference between this standalone digital copy and the extra attached to the theatrical is that the former has proper subtitles available, which is lacking in the extra feature.

Preliminary artwork for V is just the standard movie poster. But for VI, something more interesting.

It's small, I only saw it when I doubled back, but both TFF and TUC have "Artwork TBD" in the lower-right corner. I do wonder if they might be fiddling with TUC to differentiate the "Director's Cut" from the Theatrical Cut. Maybe they can put all three on with seamless branching. My first choice would be the '90s VHS version, with the Scooby Doo ending, but without the gong and flashbacks during the mind-meld for people who don't remember names from the 2000s DVD.

Agreed, I never liked the unnecessary tweaks for the DVDs. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nick Meyer wants one more change somewhere - he removed a line of dialogue when the TWOK Director’s Cut was released on Blu-ray.

Glad it’s just placeholder artwork after all, good spot!

Oh yeah, the gongs and the flashbacks spoil that scene a bit for me. I'm sure they weren't in the movie at the cinema. But then again, my memory is very bad, because I could also have sworn that the Scooby do ending was in the film at the cinema. Mind you, I was about 12 at the time.

Worth noting, if we actually get his director’s cut, it’s likely going to have his preferred 2.0:1 aspect ratio. That would mean we get two separate discs.

I really look forward to how TUC appears in 4K. Back in 2004, the DVD was near reference picture quality for the format. Practically flawless. So it was a massive disappointment that for the 2009 blu-ray the movie was riddled with DNR, making our heroes look like wax figures. I haven’t watched TUC for years because of how distractingly bad it looks.

Though a fair warning: if TUC is treated with the same care as the first four films in 4K and other 4K Paramount titles, be prepared for some very grainy footage. It’s the only Trek film shot on Super35 which tend to be grainier than anamorphic panavision. I suspect the DNR was applied in 2009 because of that grain, as well as being a dated video transfer.

We are NOT getting 2 separate discs for each aspect ratio because the Danish retailer lists 2 discs -- 1 Blu-ray and 1 UHD disc each. There are many ways they could handle it but that is not the one they choose. They could offer 1 version on Blu-ray and the other on UHD -- not a great solution but it's been done MANY times by studios with movies that have 2 versions. They could also put 1 version on the Blu-ray and both versions on the UHD WITHOUT branching -- it would be a tight fit but it would work on a BD-100 disc. And they could choose to offer both versions WITH branching by picking a common aspect ratio. There's no perfect solution -- except the one they didn't pick -- a 4 disc set. 2 UHD and 2 Blu-ray.

The Danish website said 2. All 3 movies sold as single packs of 2 discs each (rather than being combined in a box set). But there is a slim chance the release in USA will have a different configuration.
It actually makes more sense for them to sell these 3 movies in a set because that would force people who wouldn't buy all 3 titles as solo releases.

I don't think it will. I suspect the 2022 version will require a separate purchase.

Even if my digital copy did change to the 2022 version, I’d still be required to repurchase it just to get it in 4K. Guess we’ll see by September!

I still have digital copies of film stuck in SD like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL and ST09. I’ve never really felt like repurchasing those to upgrade to 4K because they’ve already been available on streaming sites like Paramount+.

That's true. I still have the original SD version of the film I bought on iTunes. But if you bought the HD version of a film, then they'll automatically update it to 4K as soon as it becomes available.

We'll need to buy the DE because it's a different movie than previously available, not specifically because it's 4K.

Okay the retailer out of Maine called Bullmoose which was the first retailer to put up pre-orders for the 1 through 4 box set last year now has pre-orders up for a staggering 11 additional pre-orders concerning the Star Trek movies!
Firstly, Blu-ray only editions of Star Trek 5, Star Trek 6 and Star Trek the motion picture directors Edition.
Next, combination UHD 4K/blu-ray releases of all six movies.
Next a box set of the first six movies which will surely infuriate the people who bought the box set of 1 through 4 assuming the next box set would be the remaining movies not a double dip.
Lastly, what is apparently a $100 Deluxe set of Star Trek the motion picture director's Edition. Speculation on what could bump the price up to $100 is up for grabs. Some people have suggested it includes the recently released two CD soundtrack. Other people think it will contain some kind of Enterprise model. Other people think the set will contain all three versions of the movie including the special longer Edition. Which would mean the set contains at least 6 discs a Blu-ray and a 4K for each of the three versions. Last year the official announcement came in early July and these disks are scheduled for the first week of September which means the announcement will probably come this July.
