Comics.

I remember how bummed out I was when DC's first series came to an abrupt end. Then I saw that Star Trek V adaptation, with the ad on the last page of the star trek and star trek TNG series that would be coming out. I remember how excited I was each month a new issue would come out. At the time I was 9 or so. That first year of both TOS and TNG comics remains my favorite year. With the trial of James T. Kirk story in the TOS book, and the doppelganger Enterprise story in TNG being so exciting to me.

Took the words out of my mouth!
I remember in the summer of 1989 getting that adaptation and for a few seconds thinking that black&white ad at the back was just some extra artwrok that comics would sometimes put in the back (like in old Savage Sword of Conan) but went giddy when I realized it was not just one but two new series, and in a better, glossier format!

That's one of the few things that was better before the internet arrived...little surprises llike this. Now we'd know about it ( and I would've known exactly WHY they stopped publishing the comic in the summer of 1988) months before.

Never been a big fan of Trek comics. I don't think comics are a friendly medium for Trek stories. I usually open one up to see endless panels of characters talking on the bridge or somewhere. Visually speaking, it's just pretty boring, more often then not.

^Then you're reading the wrong trek-comics! Try some of the IDW stuff from the last few years and you'll see what I mean. The first Kligon themed mini-series, Blood Will Tell, is a great example :techman:.

...As opposed to turning on an episode and seeing scenes of characters talking on the bridge or somewhere........ :wtf:

A 'real' Patrick Stewart who is acting is a hell of a lot more engaging than a cartoon image of Patrick Stewart with a word balloon coming out of his mouth.

I'm still waiting for Amazon to send me that and Gender and Sexuality in Star Trek: Allegories of Desire in the Television Series and Films.

Just picked up the book "Star Trek- A Comics History" at my local comic shop! It's areference guide to all Trek comics up through the IDW license acquisition. More of my feelings at my blog...

Someone mentioned this a few days ago and I immediately tried to place a backorder with my comic shop. They tried to order it via Diamond's orderpack, but it's already "unavailable" and Diamond will not be getting in more stock.

So thanks to your blog mentioning Amazon, I've just ordered it there, instead, and probably much cheaper than Diamond's originally-listed price. :techman:

Excellent! Glad to help! The book really does cover a lot of ground, and is a great reference tool for a Trek comic fan...

I really hope it does well enough for an expanded version covering the IDW stuff...
