Len Wein was a writer and editor for several DC and Marvel comics since he got his start back in 1968. He co-created the characters Wolverine and Swamp Thing, helped launch the modern version of the X-Men with "Giant-Sized X-Men" #1. His most famous work as an editor was the original "Watchmen" series by Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons.

Just saw the news on Io9, very sad. Looking though his credits on Wikipedia and the man had one hell of a career, he wrote Batman, Spider-Man, Aquaman, Before Watchmen, Fantastic Four, Kull the Conquerer, X-Men, Star Trek, The Simpsons, and Futurama.

And he was only 69 (IMO that's not all that old these days.) :(

He gave me a lot of enjoyment back when I was reading comics in the 1980ies.

RIP
