Comic Books Need Help

That's stuff from when they weren't really serious about printing TPBs though, isn't it?

Spider-Girl ceased publication within the last year. And we'd been promised for YEARS before that a comprehensive set of trades. There have been at least two incarnations of Excalibur and several minis, none of which were traded. New Warriors is an ongoing right now. So is Thunderbolts.

The issue of trades aside, there's the issue of how disgracefully Joey Q treats the B and C list characters. Like turning the original New Warriors into bumbling ametures so he had an excuse for Civil War. Or how he fired and/or killed off many of the B&C list Avengers. Or stupid decisions like the "All Big Guns" Avengers and the continuity ban.

Marvel comics has destroyed 40+ years of great comics for cheap controversy and sleazy anti-heroics.

What's your problem with the current run on GL?
Maybe it's okay. But from what I've been told, this whole Rainbow Brite inter-corp battle stuff they've got going on is both silly and in flagrant contradiction to things revealed back when I was still a regular reader about Sinestro, the origin of the GLCorp, and how the rings work.

Don't bother arguing with me about it, though - I'm a lost cause where Green Lantern and Hal Jordan are concerned ever since the end of Zero Hour. Feel free to talk it up for the benefit of others - maybe some of them aren't grognards like I am. ;)

I'm no comics expert, but I have seen New Warriors and Thunderbolts trade paperbacks at the bookstore. So unless your complaint is more specific...

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Where are the Spider-Girl trades from before she was cancelled? Where are the various incarnations of Excalibur? New Warriors? et al?
Excalibur v.1 has both several Classic TPBs out that collect the initial Claremont/Davis run (starting with this one); and an upcoming Visionaries collection for the later Davis run. The later Genoshan and "New" Excalibur launches from the 21st century are traded in full, so far as I know (certainly the latter are, though why anyone would want that particular series escapes me; they'd do far better to read Paul Cornell's new Captain Britain and MI13).

The first volume of New Warriors Classic comes out in August.

All of that is old series that it takes time and interest to go back and collect. More popular works will take priority; their current publications get automatically traded, which I understood to be what we were talking about from the start.

As for Spider-Girl, it has a line of digests; given how low sales are, I'm not surprised that they've quibbled over whether it should get an upgrade to the larger format.

Regarding Thunderbolts, I assume, based on your tastes, you mean the older Busiek/Nicieza stuff from the first volume; that was before the modern trade system started up, so, again (Quesada has actually said several times that he's not really involved in how the collections department works, which surprised me).
For every new reader they bring in with this tripe, I submit they LOSE at least one reader, ususally Old School fans. That's why sales are in the crapper, compared to 15 years ago (even if you allow for the "bubble" that hadn't burst yet).
There's no appearance of that; sales rose steadily through the 00s until the current Great Recession hit. Certainly, the new stuff turned off some people, and others simply dropped out of the hobby, but there's no sales evidence that would support such a conclusion, beyond the anecdotal.

I may be a bit behind the times...I haven't seen any of this information locally, and my sources aren't what they once were.

Thanks for the information.

As far as "currently popular books take precedence", that's just an excuse to ignore the historical in favor of the "trendy". I would rather have a trade of the first 10 post "Return" Avengers than EVERY SINGLE ISSUE since Disassembled.

There's too much gold in the archives for them to be wasting time on this sleezy trash they're passing off as "relevent" and "edgy".

Er, no. They trade everything they produce because that's what's currently being bought by customers, and, given production values, it's far easier to trade them than it is to update older comics for the current format. The latter take more time and expense, so they're handled separately, and you have to stagger their release to maintain a reasonable schedule.

You mean this? The entire Busiek run is collected, has been for years; I have it.

Whine whine whine.

Personally, I've been waiting like two years for reprints of the Simonson Thor trades, since the 2nd and 3rd volumes went out of print for a good period there. Of course, they also reprinted volume 1 (first issued in 2001), the only one I bought initially, with updated look to match the other trades and better quality, so I'll have to buy that again too. They finally got to it this year, and they should all be out by July, so I can finally get back to that. These things must be waited on, depending on how the collections department thinks they can make the most money.

Also, the upcoming collection of Bob Layton's 80s Hercules work; I've been wanting to get a hold of that ever since the current Incredible Hercules launched.
