Comic book icon Steve ditko, creator of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, passes away at 90.

One of the major creative forces in the business. Like Jack Kirby, Ditko left his mark not only on the Marvel Universe, but over at DC (and Charlton), as well:

He also brought the two Giant Monsters of British cinema to American comics:

Sad news; his style as presented in early stories featuring Spider-Man or Doctor Strange was iconic and a lesson in economy. One of the true titans, and in Spidey’s visual design he has left us a timeless classic.

I was very sad to hear this. I grew up on Spidey and Doctor Strange, but one of my favorites has always been "The Creeper", a true underdog in comic history. A few years back, I even located an action figure of the Creeper and whomped up a display base inspired by the cover of his first appearance.

Had a lot of fun reproducing the billboard and the wanted posters.
(Also, the landlord, Mister Ditkovitch in the McGuire Spiderman pics was named in his honor.)

RIP, Mr. Ditko. In one of the most transitory fields around, your work will live forever.

I know Ditko more by reputation than by actual familiarity with his work but still it's always sad when a legend passes.

Such sad news. Ditko was a unique talent who influenced the arts and American pop culture as much as titans like Kirby and Eisner-- and his range seemed unlimited, from the highly personal stories of a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to the multidimensional psychedelia of Doctor Strange. He created worlds.

He was also a very strange man, but he had the right to be a very strange man-- and nobody can say that we didn't benefit from his strangeness.

RIP, Steve Ditko, and thanks for everything.

Damn. He was a giant amongst the giants. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Steve Ditko. :(

Kai, thanks for that gallery. I mentioned Mr. Ditko's passing to a friend today and he replied that it was God's way to get us ready for Stan Lee.
