Spoilers Combined Star Trek SDCC Coverage thread (potential Disco S2 spoilers)

We both know it isn't.

TNG was all over mainstream tv in the 90s, Discovery has a niche audience of hardcore fans. It's apples and oranges.
I don't know that. So I'll ask again. Based on what? That it's a streaming service? Well that's the new paradigm. Lots of shows are successes on streaming both critically and with audiences. DISCO seems to be one them.
Its apples and apples. It's just the way the apples are getting to the consumer has changed. And there are more types of apples for people to chose from.

I think it was said today that out of the four live action Short Treks three involve the Pike Enterprise and one is a Picard prequel. The other two are animated. No sign of a Discovery Short Trek.
So? Was that in question?

Too much to ask for these days! ;)

About the trailer:

GOOD:
Cinematography
Patrick Stewart
Vineyard / Picard family home stuff
Jeri Ryan as Seven
Action scene with new female character kicking ass
Costumes

BLAH:
Rogue/pirate crew vibe
Borg cube
Brent Spiner / Data / B4 plotline
2020 release

I saw a video from comic con where they interviewed the cast of discovery after the picard trailer aired, and man looking at them they looked so worried I felt sorry for them.

Sonequa was just stood there looking worried and Rebecca romaijn weakly giggled and mentioned wanting to do a crossover.

I felt really bad for them as you could see them thinking "man our show is going to get compared to that"

My thoughts on the trailer:

The Good:
-Picard's introspection and discussion with Data.
-The Look and feel of the shots.
-Interesting tidbits of Trek lore.

The Mixed:
-Data? Ok...maybe
-Seven...surprising.

The concerning:
-Action hero Picard
-World endring threat
-No more Borg!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like projection.

Kurtzman was just interviewed singing Sonequa's praises. Really worrisome

Until people can read minds I'm going to take this reckless speculation and file it away under "garbage."

Are you doing a Sonequa-style monologue right now? She would be flattered.

Sure

CBS wants new Trek to be on their All-Access year round, THAT is a well known FACT stated by Kurtzman.
(ya know, THAT Guy running the whole shebang for at least the next 5 years)

SO, DISCOVERY isn't going anywhere at least for the next two seasons (years), cause all these Trek shows are going to be aired mostly individually in order to fill the premise in my first sentence.

PICARD is just the tip of the Trek Iceberg for what They have planned and DISCOVERY is already a very big part of it.

Wishful thinking is all folks can claim with their "Woe is me for DISCOVERY" crap.

Discovery is on the ropes and is going to have to fight for its LIFE with season 3

I'm sorry to say it, but it is in trouble. Picard only has to be "ok" and it'll be considered a big success
Yawn.
It's wishful thinking

But wanting something to be true isn't going to make it true

It really pains me to say it but Discovery is in a desperate state, it really saddens me to admit that.

This next season may well be it's last.
Yawn, again.

I'm thinking your definition of "worried looking" and what most of the rest of us would consider "worried looking" are not even from the same universe...

I believe this may be the video you're referring to...

It is obvious that even saying that they are "slightly concerned" would be a stretch.

If that was supposed to make us worried, it had the exact opposite effect for me. More excited than ever!

I just woke up from the craziest dream...
I dreamt that they were making a new TNG show with Picard, Data and 7of9, going on a rogue mission to save the galaxy.

Also i dreamt that Discovery got canceled and the whole show was basically a Nexus fever dream of an El Aurian who catched the measles

You have to admit, it's not a sign of confidence to send the show 950 years into the future. It's virtually rebooting everything but the core cast and starting over again with a clean slate of paper. It's a lot more dramatic than the 4th-season decisions to add Worf or Seven to DS9 and VOY. It's more akin to the whole Xindi arc in Season 3 of ENT.

Also, being on the 5th showrunner heading into its third season isn't a good look.

Look, I hope season 3 works, I really do. But there certainly are some signs that - at least from a creative side, if not a ratings side - it was thought something needed to change.
Oh please. They moved ST: D 950 years into the 'future' so they could set the 'Section 31' series in the 23rd century. It's pretty clear at this point they really don't want to deal with two series in the same era running over each other. I love how when Discovery brings in notable 23rd century characters it's seen as the sghow 'being in trouble/using a crutch'; because iif that is indeed the case (after watching the Star Trek Picard panel up on Youtube) CBS must consider 'Star Trek Picard' on life support with:
Data, Seven of Nine in the trailer; Hugh (Johnathan Del Arco) at the Panel stating he's on the show, and Mr. Chabon stating Riker and Troi will appear as well

But yeah, I forgot: When they do this for TOS, it's a 'crutch' and 'fanwank' and 'needless fanservice'; but for a TNG based series ts 'logical' and very welcome.

Kurtzman also hinted they are thinking about a 'Pike' series down the road; but that probably wouldn't happen until 'Section 31' has launched; OR that's one instance where they might decide to have two shows in the same era at the same time.

Time will tell.

This. 100% this. 100,000% this.

What it really boils down to is: "I like X a lot, so I'll give it a pass. I have issues with Y, so I'll give it Hell." The bias is un-fucking-believable. It's so naked, they're not even bothering to hide it.

People should start admitting that Disco is a failed project. They put S3 far away in the future so it can’t do any more harm to the franchises canon.

Also the Georgiou/S31show is could still get canceled in favor of the Pike show...
