Maybe reading too much into some props, but he’s named as Captain on this, also marked 2386. Maybe he was given the Admiral rank as some kind of honorary title on retiring?

My one worry going in was Picard is my absolute favorite character in the entire Franchise and I didn't want this series to tarnish that. Based on these photos, those fears are dwindling. If they manage to actually enhance the Picard character rather than make me change my already favorable opinion of Picard, that would be a great achievement.
Again, fits with my hypothesis he didn't retire in 2386, he just accepted an admiralty back on Earth.

Yeah, think the same actor popped up a few times, even as a corpse in the “Violations” flashbacks.
Again, great detail having them both wear the correct uniform for their time serving on the Stargazer. Someone in production is paying attention.

Why would Robert (assuming that's Robert, he was the older brother) be holding a model of the NX-01, I thought Robert hated starfleet?

Maybe the toy turned him off to Starfleet when Jean-Luc stole it, which also created the rift in their relationship. 
Or he was offering to hold Jean-Luc's toy for the pic, then broke it right after the photo was taken. Always the bully.

Nice to see the attention to detail and the filling in of some blanks. How could would it be if the show was kind of like this retrospective on Picard's whole life that ties into "current" events and gives his character some true closure? I'm pumped.
