College Football 2025: Where's My NIL Money?

Auburn fires Hugh Freeze. The total owed to D1 football coaches fired midseason in 2025 is $182 million.

Turned on a replay of Wagner vs. Duquesne for background noise, two FCS schools in the Northeast Conference. Very basic TV broadcast but at least they had more than one camera.

The Wagner running back dropped the ball at the one yard line but the officials didn't catch it and let the score stand. Future NFL star there.

Great win last night by my Trojans.

And today, I think we can safely say that BYU was overrated.

In the USC-Northwestern game last night, USC throws an interception, the Northwestern player is taking it in for a score but the USC QB plows into him at the one-yard line and he fumbles the ball away.

That was a great play by Maiava.

The fake punt was beautiful too.

NCAA agrees to $303 million settlement with volunteer coaches

"The NCAA has agreed to pay $303 million to settle a class action antitrust lawsuit representing about 7,700 volunteer college coaches who alleged the organization engaged in illegal wage fixing under a rule that prohibited schools from paying them."

"From 1992 to July 2023, the NCAA and its schools agreed to cap the number of paid coaches for Division I sports. Certain sports teams were allowed one 'volunteer coach' who would not be paid and who was restricted from receiving other benefits. The NCAA punished schools that violated that rule."

"Last Chance U" coach John Beam from Laney College has been shot and killed. They don't know how the suspect knew Beam but he had been known to loiter around on the Laney campus. He had played high school football at the school where Beam once worked but not when Beam was there.

Virginia Tech interested in James Franklin. I assume they just have to pay him the bare minimum because Penn State is paying the rest?

And Texas A&M comes back.

South Carolina must have a really stupid quarterback if he thinks he can run it on fourth and long.

That was terrible!

GT escapes Boston College(!).

Big showdown next week in Eugene for my Trojans.

I propose a 50% tax on jock pay to go to scholars bowls

Yeah, WTF?! Did our defense not make the trip to Boston?

Alright let’s go down on the field for post game with the coach!
“Coach, what did we just witness?”
“…we won the game.”
It's obvious Key wasn't happy with that performance.

Arizona sold the stadium naming rights to Casino del Sol. Good thing there’s nothing going on in the news about sports fixing. $60 million for 20 years.

That is not a good look. I really hope sports betting gets severely restricted in the near future.

There are literally ads on the Seattle-area networks featuring UW players (including QB Demon Williams) for one of the local casinos. They advise that gambling is fun, but you need to 'know your limits', and seek help if it gets to be 'too much'. It's definitely 'a choice' to name the stadium after a casino, LOL. Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium is bad enough...

There are some pretty bad optics when the company goes down for fraud, like Enron and FTX.

MLB might have the worst naming rights names -- Guaranteed Rate Field, Globe Life Field, Citizens Bank Park, Truist Park, LoanDepot Park.

Georgia Tech fans and alumni were definitely annoyed by the change from "Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field" to "Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field" a couple years ago, as it had been known as Grant Field for 110 years. It's different when you're renaming a site with history as opposed to a brand-new stadium. I know we're hurting for money (especially since getting rid of he-who-shall-not-be-named), but that one just felt wrong. Could be worse though, considering the names of some other places. And at least they didn't rename the stadium. (Fingers crossed! 🤞)
