Coda

So IF you could be killed by an alien tachyon nebula burst and be resuscitated by any Star Trek character who would it be?

I'll take Janeway. I'll let her pound on my chest and breath down my throat..
A woman with smarts ... provided that she's STACKED!!! Hmm ... let me see who fits that bill? B'Elanna, maybe. If she wore, like, a bandanna to cover that Ludacris rubber head of hers ...

It doesn't really matter whether they slept together on the show (they didn't), in the books all was made well for the J/C crowd and the Janeway crowd who was just happy Janeway was happy.

If they had not slept together, it makes it very difficult to explain Chakotay's prolonged infatuation with Janeway. The way he chooses to express his mysticism is kind of corny, but I suspect that Chakotay is not adverse to accepting reality. And at some point - early on - the "reality" that he wasn't going to have her would've become impossible to ignore - and he would've accepted it and moved on. I mean ... she's not even that hot! Come ON ... But, had he had her and discovered their shared sexual chemistry, this could linger and distort judgement. He might be more inclined to hold onto false hope.

Hmm...I'm gonna be a little weird at the moment and go with Tom Paris.

I just watched a bunch of Bride of Chaotica in order to respond to a podcast about the episode and he was just too adorable in that episode. Gotta a little crush on him at the moment.

Read the relaunch novels. :p

Yup.

... Done!

Hmmm ... OK, let's see what we have here - if this is going to be a page-turner, or not:

STAR TREK: Voyager - Relaunch Novel #1

This is after the Preface, but before Chapter One. Alright, here we go: "It was a dark and stormy night."

Oh, dear. I have a bad feeling about this ...

The first 4 books are a bit of a pain to get through, but Kirsten Beyer's books are awesome I think. From "Full Circle" on!

To paraphrase what Kirk said to Gillian in the Italian restaurant, on STAR TREK 4: "(I trust you) implicitly." :)

Gotta post this one lol

The only time poor Chakotay gets to kiss his love and it's to resuscitate her. And that's why I read too much fanfic... :p

Looking at this, I realize that I always thought his fingers were longer. They look kinda stubby for his size.

There was NO intended euphemisms in that statement, though it sure read like that.

And I’m sure that there are readers here who don’t give a whit about the length of his...fingers. (Take that any way you like! ;))

so why have the time loop thing...surely that will only re-emphasise that it's some kind of timey whimey anomaly type thing (rather than death)

and why make Kes sense here presence during the aliens final attempt.....that would again, give Janeway a reason to continue believing that she's not actually dead

For an alien that wants people to think they're dead, it was pretty incompetent

I took these incidents to be Janeway's mind fighting back against the alien. The time thing that happened at first was her mind's initial way of making sense of what was happening in a way that would seem plausible to her. That and the Kes thing were a part of the struggle to keep her rationality and not give in to the alien.

IT's not like Chak doesn't get some else times. Sure he returns to his admiration and desire for Janeway but he's hardly moping. That's just life, sometimes there is someone who is always in your mind as "if only.." and they are happily there, it isn't killing you it's just a possibility you never let go of.

MAYBE IT WAS A DOUBLE! MAYBE MULGREW REFUSED TO BE KISSED/RESUSSED BY HIM!!

What's all this talk of Janeway and Chakotay......people make it sound like he sat in his quarters pining for her and squeezing his pillow....am i the only one that didn't get any of that from the show....i recall there was some mild flirting (and some ambiguity about what happened in resolutions) but i never got the sense that he was madly in love with her or anything

Is this a case of fan fiction retrospectively putting ideas into people's heads

I never saw it.

I thought the alien created all those scenarios though...and the only part Janeway had control over was whether or not to accept she was dead and then head on over to the matrix for some kung fu etc

This episode seems a bit vague

Janeway's Alien Ghost Dad just seemed to want Janeway to feed him, all the time. To bake him tasty treats, like cookies, piping hot from the hearth inside his Matrix - which glows orange from its fire, even now. And bread. Lots of bread.

Well, yes. They were going to go in that direction but Kate Mulgrew kicked up a stink about it, however they certainly laid the groundwork and while they dropped the plan for a romance they didn't defuse Chak's obvious ardor.. though I believe he successfully back burnered it and went on to other women.

I saw it that way because I wanted to. But yeah it was stronger in Seasons 1-3. They stopped insinuating it for a while. But the novels gave me what I wanted. :p

Bumping this thread as a Christmas treat for the ladies

And because i watched this again last night and still don't really know what's going on. The alien want's her to think she's dead but then encourages her to see things that contradict being dead

I took these incidents to be Janeway's mind fighting back against the alien.

If that's true then what about the eulogy scene where the crew all talk about how wonderful and amazing she was and Harry has a little cry. Was that Janeway's own assessment of what she thought the crew thought of her (how presumptuous)

It was less strong when 7 showed up :D

If i was Tom and had just started taking tentative steps towards a relationship with B'ellana and then Seven showed up.....i'd secretly be kicking myself
