Good, so you are with me. The last Trek movie made $43 million, so we shouldn't settle for anything less than $600 million for this one.

The point of the film, IMO, was "Despite how dark things may look sometimes, the night is always darkest just before the dawn...and the dawn is coming."

The dawn will be here May 8th (earlier in some fortunate locales)!

My thoughts exactly! Geez. It was just a movie and, IMO, a mediocre one at that. I simply cannot understand why it did so incredibly well, except for Ledger's death.

If you don't understand why The Dark Knight did well, then you were either not paying attention to the actual content of the film, or you were not paying attention to the public general mood in the Summer of 2008, or both.

I can't believe there is virtually no negativity from any of the critics who have seen the film. Pretty amazing.

If this movie gets good word of mouth I can see it get many female to go see it. I mean this movie doesn't look it's going to be a big dumb action movie.

Actually, from all the trailers I've seen, that's EXACTLY what I expect. I have talked to quite a few ST fans here and their attitude is, "It isn't Star Trek, so all I am expecting is some colourful lights and pretty explosions".

That's my attitude as well - if I AT LEAST get THAT, I will be satisfied. It is only JJ Abrams, after all.

So yeah, this BETTER be more of "big dumb action film", if it's going to play to Joe Meat Head in Buttfuck Kansas, or you can kiss your $250m goodbye and ST disappears down the plughole of failed summer tentpole blockbusters.

very good for you (and for us!). take your girlfriends! I'm taking as many of my girlfriends (from 20 to 40+) as I can. we need more women in this franchise.

also, I think once word gets around as to how "hot" Pine and Quinto are, they might not need much bugging. actually, Cho is pretty cool as well.

yeah, I don't have a lotta girlfriends who want to watch Trek, especially young ones. hence why I said what I did earlier. most of my Trekkie pals are male.

The issue to me is no longer whether it is good enough to be a film with legs, its whether or not the competition will be too much to allow ST to gross as much as it would have in a less busy season.
