CNN: "Star Trek" could rival "Dark Knight"

Hey this 20-something woman has scheduled the day off work to see it in May. :)

Maybe in the sequel they can cast Zac Efron as Gary Mitchell. That way they can get the 15-20 female crowd!

I'm sorry is "Zac Efron" the successful kid that everyone on the Internet is better than this week? It's so hard to keep up with Celebrity Snark...

Overanalyze much?

My thoughts exactly! Geez. It was just a movie and, IMO, a mediocre one at that. I simply cannot understand why it did so incredibly well, except for Ledger's death.

If you don't understand why The Dark Knight did well, then you were either not paying attention to the actual content of the film, or you were not paying attention to the public general mood in the Summer of 2008, or both.
So ''Sci'' you belive in OBAMA then?

My bad! What forum whold you recommend?
Misc or TNZ would be appropriate for discussion of political topics, though I believe Misc has some restrictions. I'd prefer they not be brought up here, though, because they have nothing at all to do with the movie.

If this movie gets good word of mouth I can see it get many female to go see it. I mean this movie doesn't look it's going to be a big dumb action movie.

Actually, from all the trailers I've seen, that's EXACTLY what I expect. I have talked to quite a few ST fans here and their attitude is, "It isn't Star Trek, so all I am expecting is some colourful lights and pretty explosions".

That's my attitude as well - if I AT LEAST get THAT, I will be satisfied. It is only JJ Abrams, after all.

So yeah, this BETTER be more of "big dumb action film", if it's going to play to Joe Meat Head in Buttfuck Kansas, or you can kiss your $250m goodbye and ST disappears down the plughole of failed summer tentpole blockbusters.

very good for you (and for us!). take your girlfriends! I'm taking as many of my girlfriends (from 20 to 40+) as I can. we need more women in this franchise.

also, I think once word gets around as to how "hot" Pine and Quinto are, they might not need much bugging. actually, Cho is pretty cool as well.

Karl Urban too!

Sadly, I don't have too many girlfriends, but I'll see what I can do!

yeah, Urban's pretty delicio :p

yeah, I don't have a lotta girlfriends who want to watch Trek, especially young ones. hence why I said what I did earlier. most of my Trekkie pals are male.

The issue to me is no longer whether it is good enough to be a film with legs, its whether or not the competition will be too much to allow ST to gross as much as it would have in a less busy season.

RAMA
