C'mon Andy

The only thing he has not done is capture the real Grand Slam
 what

Roger's never won a calendar Grand Slam--winning all four majors in one year. Steffi Graf won it in 1988-all four titles, including the Olympic Gold that year. Sometimes they call hers the Golden Slam.

But Roger has won the career Grand Slam--winning all four majors in his career.

Winning the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon and US Open in one year.

edit: And you beat me to it :D

Great win for Federer there, and an impressive match from Roddick as well.

What a match! I loved every minute of it! It's too bad one of the two had to lose, it was a great tennis show from both of them. And congratulations to Roger on the new record. The look on Sampras' face said it all. :D

I've always been critical of Andy's overall play and often felt he was really just a one trick pony, but throughout this tournament he's proven me wrong time and time again.

He played an outstanding match, though I wonder if Federer's beginning to show cracks in his armour and is beginning to show his age.

Regardless, kudos to both players, and I'm looking forward to watching Andy play in the US Open. (should be exciting...)

Age? They're both just 27. :vulcan:

Incorrect.
Roddick is 26 (he will be 27 on August 30th), though Federer is 27.

My point was more that Federer isn't as seemingly unstoppable as he was in his earlier years, and was not intended to diminish Roddick's accomplishments in this Finals.

I stand corrected, but still, 27 is very young by any tennis standard and Federer has reached at least the semifinals in 31 consecutive tournaments before reaching this Wimbledon final. That's another record he now holds, and it shows that he is in fact in great shape and hasn't even suffered an injury in a rather long time.

In fact, at the end of the match Roddick looked devastated (emotionally of course, but also physically) while Federer was barely sweating.

Roddick seems to have really improved his game in '09. The past few years he was relying largely on his serve, as soon as he got into the later levels of competition it was catching up to him. But now with an seriously improved backhand, I think he's really stepped his game up.

And this is one reason I am becoming more of an admirer of Roddick's. He added to his arsenal, and is steadily becoming a better all-around player. He seems in better physical condition as well. It's insane the way he, and Federer as well, were unleashing those huge serves in the fifth set.

Additionally, props to the presumably mostly British crowd for congratulating Roddick with such enthusiasm. They truly seemed to appreciate what he did, even if it meant he'd knocked out their latest hope for the first Brit Men's Champ in over 70 years.

the final set during the men's singles championship match was truly fun to watch. congrats to both Roddick and Federer.

Going under the Assumption we're talking Wimbledon, I need to learn to catch these final matches. Two years in a row I wasn't watching and they both are Instant classics. Great win from Federer, and a great effort from Roddick. I've been losing some respect for Roddick ever since he fired Gilbert, but this match earned some of that back. Hopefully this goes into the US Open.

Hopefully next year for Murray!

Although, how many years have we been saying that about British Tennis player?!
