Closure on captain Picard before Patrick dies?

Personally speaking, I hope they don't shoe-horn him into a future Trek movie (or STD, for that matter). Not that I'd consider it a possibility that might actually happen.

NEM wasn't a great send-off for the character, but it was... serviceable? Bearable? I'll go with that.

In the end, it doesn't really matter what we thought of it, because like you said SPCTRE, the studios consider Nemesis the end/send-off for TNG. They're not sitting their thinking 'Oh, fans didn't like it? We better make a new one!'. I know a lot of fans still think the studios want to please fans (not saying you are one of those SPCTRE, but this part of your post was something I agree with, so quoted it), but they aren't. When they say done, it's done.

Nope.

Whats wrong with an open ended finish for a character? As far as we know Sisko stayed with the prophets, Janeway got home and Picard kept finding reasons to explore.

On screen only a few have had the book closed. It's a bit more hopeful an end to see a character happy, alive and doing what they love than doing a full Logan.

Are you sure?

As beautiful as the TOS crew's sendoff was in TUC, I don't think we need that for every series. Plus it's so easy to fuck up that it could very well be a "be careful what you wish for" scenario.

And here I was hoping Picard would get hit on the head and imagine himself as a sci-fi tv writer in the early 21st century.
Nah he becomes a vintner, spends his days drinking champagne and lusting after his best friend's wife.

Sam Beckett never leaped home, ALF was cornered by the very agency that we were told many times that would dissect him, Mork and Mindy are stuck in Earth's prehistoric days, the rebels of Blake's 7 may have survived (somehow)... so much open-endedness...

Proper closure is nice, but the die-hard fans that sit through the worst of it all may never get rewarded with a decently written closure. Most casual viewers rarely stay around, which is why fewer fans exist to begin with, and yet closure for a show isn't made for the casual viewers who aren't going to care either way anyway...

I'm very content with the way things currently are. Like it or hate it, the more engaging and outgoing Picard in Nemesis was a far cry from the fairly standoffish and aloof Picard we first saw in "Encounter At Farpoint." I think leaving him as still captain of the Enterprise is a good closure to the character.
