It seems lately that the Clone Wars series has 'erased' the canoncity of most of the Clone Wars-era Expanded Universe. This of course is mainly due to Lucas and Filoni not really caring for the Expanded Universe (Although tidbits have made their way between media), and that's OK. However, for those familiar with both chronologies, which 'version' do you prefer?

Timeline #1

The original timeline for the Clone Wars, as told in Star Wars Republic, various other comics and novels (Such as Shatterpoint) went something like this: Anakin remains a padawan for most of the war, until the final year where he becomes a Knight (As shown in the original, cell-shaded series) and 'brother' to Obi-Wan. Ventress is the one to give Anakin his scar shortly before ROTS. Anakin's potrayal largely in the novels is more consistent with the Anakin we see in the last two prequels. Also Anakin meets Tarkin during the Zonama Sekot mission (Rogue Planet). Obi-Wan's main clone commanders are Alpha and Cody. The Jedi for the most part, wear their traditional robes. The Mandalorians are many and definetly not passive, and their culture has an impact on the Clones, especially since they were partially trained by Mandalorians (including of course Jango). Dooku's main henchmen include, along with Ventress and Grievous, are Sora Bulq (A weequay ex-Jedi) Durge (Seen in the original animated series) Also Quinlan Vos joins Dooku as an undercover agent. Also, Evan Piell dies after ROTS, in the Coruscant Nights series.

Timeline #2

The "Clone Wars" CG series takes a different approach. Anakin becomes a Knight early in the war, growing his hair long/getting the scar etc. and of course there's Asoka. His scar is not quite explained. Anakin's potrayal is more in line with the OT and TPM, he's less of a whiny jerk and more a good guy although there still is the potential for his fall. Anakin meets Tarkin during the Citadel mission. Obi-Wan's main clone commander is Rex, instead of Alpha (Although Filoni originally intended to use Alpha). The Jedi, at least in the earlier seasons, wear modified clone trooper armor. The Mandalorians are a pacifist race and only a few dissenters are the warriors. Dooku's main henchmen are Ventress and Greivous, and of course Cad Bane who works closer with Sidious. Quinlan Vos is largely different. Evan Piell dies in the Citdal serials.

As much of a fan of the novels as I am, I must begrudgingly go with the tv series. I just wish they made more references/ties to the books.

Still waiting for the adaptation of "Dark Rendezvous" and "Shatterpoint"!

Dark Rendevous kind of feels like a Clone Wars episode, in a few ways.

Shatterpoint would be a tough one, it's a very dark tale.

While I'm still not in love with the characters of the PT, Duursema and Ostrander expanded that universe out and added depth and quality that Lucas never possibly could have. The novels are a bit more uneven, some even dipping to depths lower than the PT, there were some gems in there that made otherwise useless characters like Mace Windu interesting (like Shatterpoint). Now, I haven't watched season 3 of the animated crap, but it's because I just couldn't put up with the crappy characters and writing of the show, but I have watched the first 2 seasons and it was garbage.

Comics/novels all the way.

So this poll is basically non-canon (EU) vs soft-canon (CW)?

Though CW can even be considered hard-canon, since The Man himself said "I don't make a distinction between the series and the films".

It should be noted that Anakin's scar isn't explained in the TCW because it was SHOWN in the animated series. As mentioned in previous Clone Wars threads Filoni has stated that they're not completely ignoring that series but have incorporated various things from it. For my own personal timeline I include both the micro series, the CGI series, and the novels and comics. The war still takes place over 18 months or something like that.

I voted Timeline #2, but only because of Anakin's characterization and the good setup they've been doing for his eventual fall.

That matters a lot more to me than whether the Mandaloreans are pacifist, what kind of clothes the Jedi wear, or when any given character dies who is not germane to the main plot. There's a big difference between the (few) elements that are essential to the story and the much larger number of details that don't matter either way.

Though CW can even be considered hard-canon, since The Man himself said "I don't make a distinction between the series and the films".
Twaddle. TCW has contradicted the PT on many occasions, most glaringly in Anakin's portrayal. Lucas is saying that he doesn't give a frak and does whatever he likes, or possibly that he's so incapable of paying attention to detail that he isn't even aware when he's being inconsistent. :rommie:

But the important point is that someone is paying attention. The inconsistencies are all on the "good" side - they are improving the story. That can't be happening by random chance.

I was always adamant in my beliefs that canon violations are 100% JUSTIFIED if they are indeed improving the story.

On the other hand, enforcing canon at the expense of the story or even common reason is something I found profoundly stupid (perfect example being Enterprise relaunch novels with their near-ridiculous attempts to justify all that nonsense from "Balance of Terror")...

Also, I don't see any major conflict between Tartakovsky's Clone Wars and the CGI series...

I'd forgotten it was in the comics....and fine three years is 24 months then Set Harth.

Try 36 months.

The same portrayal that matches up exactly with the start of ROTS?

Or he's deliberately not being inconsistent and is well aware of the situation.
