Clone Wars S2

On the Zillo beast episodes, my take was that both of those episodes asked Anakin if the ends justified the means, with Palpatine representing a consequentialist POV and Mace and then Padme representing a virtue-oriented approach. In the first one he ended up finding his own solution, in the second one he wussed out of saying anything (though I was very amused to see him in the equivalent of in the middle of a fight between mom and dad). He's still conflicted, but we know now that he doesn't really buy into the Jedi approach to morality, he's more in line with what Palpatine has been telling him. He's on track to become a Sith.

Then Steve Perry is a shitty writer, too

Of course he is, because... wait for it... the alternative cannot be possible. It cannot!!!

Since those are the people whose opinions I respect, I am speaking on their behalf.

Fair enough, Palpatine. It's always good to have a glossary around so one can decode these things. So when you say "the audience", you really mean a certain group of people on a specific site.

I expect him to behave similarly enough that I can believe he's the same guy.

Then you don't expect turning to the dark side to mean anything.

Otherwise the story is "Anakin vanishes and is replaced

That is the story. See: 1983. As someone once said, if you don't like it, tough.

Steven Perry wrote the novel Shadows Of The Empire, which was kind of a 'bridge' between ESB and ROTJ. It's actually kind of a fun story, and was the first Expanded Universe tale to actually have it's own merchandise (including action figures), hence why fans often say it should've been a movie.
He's done a few Star Wars novels since, as well as some Conan and Alien novels (Which were mainly adaptations of the Dark Horse comics.)

Didn't Shadows of the Empire also have its own soundtrack? I thought it was a decent story, not the least of which because it had you cheering for Darth Vader in its climactic moments. Oh, and I'll never forget the hours I spent playing the N64 game (nor the motion sickness!)

Yeah, Shadows of the Empire was a multi-media campaign. It's a fun book in a great era for a story but it's filled with tons of Mary Sues and Gary Stus.

Ugh. If I hear "Mary Sue" (or any of its variants) one more time ... :scream:

Nothing against you personally, DarthPipes, but I've seen the term thrown around way too often without anything to really back it up. :p

Which characters in Shadows of the Empire do you find problematic? I mean there's Dash Rendar, who is essentially (and waaay too obviously) Han Solo redux. Xizor isn't exactly the world's most complex villain. It's been a long while since I read the book; am I missing anything? Leia unrealistically having too much sexual appeal for Xizor, maybe?
