Cloaks and Torpedos

Does that not suggest with the command of subspace, they could have sent her home.
Just her?

Anyway, you stating that 'they could have sent her home' doesn't make it true.

Yes they have some command of subspace, as does Starfleet and its warp-driven starships, but that doesn't mean they're somehow all powerful and can instantly transport vessels across the galaxy.

Transk53,

Am I the only one who's noticing the irony of you getting irate earlier about "hijacking of your thread" (and you had asked about weapons systems, and particularly about torpedos.... and we were talking about torpedos), yet you have no issue with deviating from that point yourself?

(1) Can torpedos be cloaked?

Yes, but the cloak will draw a huge portion of the weapon's potential available power, meaning that the yield is reduced as a result.

(2) What would cloaked torpedos be useful for?

Discussed at length.

(3) What if the yield of a torpedo is, in part, due to it serving as a "kinetic strike vehicle" rather than just as a warhead delivery system? What if it doesn't even really NEED a warhead to do tremendous damage in certain circumstances?

All were "on topic." Yet you seemed to object to those topics as "hijacking." I'm having a hard time seeing how Jason Alexander's episode relates... AT ALL... to warhead capabilities.

No your not, hence why I offered an apologie because I was contradicting myself. I then decided that I was being a little silly and thought bollocks to it. Thanks for pointing that out :)

Indeed. If it was possible, I imagined that the thought, could have been a scenario and been fun to watch.

Fair 'nuff..

I have no problem with an OP trying to keep a thread "on target" and I also have no problem with an OP letting a thread go into another direction. I clearly missed that bit, though.

Not trying to be confrontational, and if it came across that way, my apologies. Guess I just was a bit peeved and let that slip through into my own comment (which I generally try not to do).

So, to use a phrase dramatically overused by some folks I know... and which makes me cringe... but which is the most appropriate term I can think of right now... "It's all good." (Blech, did I just type that???)

ANYway... back to to subject. :)

Is red sauce or brown sauce better on a bacon sandwich?
I'm from California. Clearly, the correct answer is salsa verde.
Correct! You win a cloaked torpedo!

(By that I mean to reference the original thread topic, and am not attempting to use a thinly-veiled sexual metaphor involving my own torpedo, whether it be cloaked or otherwise)

You should always cloak your torpedo. Leaving it uncloaked means that all kinds of nasty things could get up your torpedo tube.

Practice safe sex - cloak your torpedo.

As I've become fond of saying... space is big. Really, really big.

By contrast, a ship is small... really, really small.

At best, you might see, just for a moment, where a ship is, and might be able to project a statistical "probability cone" from that measurement, but within milliseconds, the odds of a hit would become essentially zero.

So, the idea of a "blanketing fire" region is essentially useless in real-world, real-scale terms. Unless you fire at EXACTLY the instant that you see the torpedo-firing ship, and your fire arrives at essentially that same time (meaning phasers but not torpedos), you're never going to stand a chance of a hit.

You can't "blanket fire cover" a region of space consisting of millions of cubic kilometers. And that's what we're talking about for the speeds at which Trek ships generally maneuver.

Good post. It was ridiculous when Enterprise fired a spread at zero elevation in Nemesis.
