Click and Clack are retiring (NPR's Car Talk)

Reading this yesterday actually shocked me.

No More New Car Talk

I've been listening to this show for maybe 4 years now, and I didn't think they would ever retire. I'm not all that big on Cars but the reason I listen to the show (Even though there were times when I was slightly getting tired of it) was because Tom and Ray were almost like what true American Spirit was all about, two individuals who were always positive and you actually wanted to hang out with. I hope they enjoy their retirement.

I've been listening off and on for about 10 years - those guys are a riot. I'm going to miss them on the air. :(

The announcement was a bit of a surprise to me too; I don't know how many hours they work on the show a week but my impression is that it was almost semi-retirement already. But Tom is in his mid-70s and I don't blame them a bit. I've been listening for, jeez, 20 years. Some of their bits got a little tired but their interaction with callers is always great and they can consistently make me laugh after all these years. Best of luck to them.

I think that's what got me close to stop listening. All the stuff they do at the end like the silly puns (Doug "Not a Slave For Fashion, Bungle Boy" Berman) did get old, but it's the commadrie with the callers that kept me coming back. That and the weekly Puzzlers, which sometimes the answers seem like they just pulled it out of their asses or something. Still, it's a fun show and I do actually hope on the last show they say something like what date it is. I could never tell if they take a week off or not. It's almost like they've been there every week for 25 years, which is quite a streak. I'm sure they have to take some vacation time.

Those guys were hilarious. The best part is that you didn't need to know anything about cars to enjoy the show.

I'll miss them.

I listen to them whenever I can, sad to see them retiring but if anyone is deserving they are. I'm guessing they're retiring their newspaper column too.

I'll miss them for sure. I am glad to hear their shows will continue to be played and from what I've heard get remixed (I'm thinking maybe themes?) with them making occasional appearances. At that age, I think retirement is well deserved!
