Clever naming of star wars villans.

The scary part is that they're as clever as GL can get! :p

The descriptive villain names are somewhat evocative of those in Jack Kirby's Fourth World titles--e.g., Granny Goodness, Baron Bedlam, Glorious Godfrey. Of course, Lucas is probably familiar with those, since certain elements of the Star Wars films bear a remarkable resemblance to those comics.

I always thought the names were all pretty obvious. Solo the loner, Skywalker the star pilot; Hell, if you ever wanted to lay a princess, that's covered too.

Darth Veviticus=Invective
Darth Wyyrlok=Warlock
Darth Nihl=Nihilism
Darth Bane=Bane
Darth Talon=Talon
Darth Maul=Maul
Darth Revan=Revenant
Darth Millenial=Millenial (One of the dumbest Sith names)
Darth Plagueis=Plague
Darth Phobos=Phobos, or Fear
Darth Desolous=Desolate
Count Dooku=Doku, or poison

I like most of the Sith and Jedi names. I think some are pretty clever. Others, perhaps not so much.

I'm glad I never read much of the expanded universe.

Nobody noticed that "Obi-Wan" means "Black belt"?

No it's "Oh, be one." as he expects Luke to be a jedi just like he had "Ben". And of course Kenobi means "sword belt" where he hangs his saber.

I saw an interview where Lucass said he had his 5 and 6 year olds make up names, like Greedo, Jar Jar, Ewok, etc... I guess he figured 5 year olds have to be the pinnacle of writing acumen. Lucass.

[note: the spell check had issue with Greedo but not Jar Jar. sad, so sad.]

That'd be a pretty neat trick if his kids were 5 and 6 when both "Star Wars" AND "the Phantom Menace" were being written, considering they're more than 20 years apart.

Maybe he tampered with their midichlorians to slow their aging.....

Lucas didn't have any children until they adopted their first kid in the early 80's.

His son Jett (who played Jedi Youngling/Padawan Zett Jukasa in ROTS) was born in 1993 and is therefore the right age to have made up words for TPM at any rate.
