Classic Who on Twitch (Again!)

I've watched some of it. It's been fun to see what appeals to the new viewers and what random things they pick up on - LONDON 1965!

Ian, the first Doctor and particularly Barbara have gone down well. There was a technical error last night so they ending up showing The Web Planet 3 or 4 hours late so you had some very annoyed people on the chat and The Web Planet (of all stories!) trended on Twitter for a while.

The error was most of the day sadly. I would've loved to watch The Web Planet, especially since I'm one of its few staunch defenders.

I mus say, I'm really loving the new logo. Its not quite as nostalgic for me as the RTD one, but it definitely is better than the Moffat one, by a country mile and then some.

Is the new logo just for the run on Twitch or are they likely to carry it through when the series returns later this year?

I watched bits of The Chase yesterday and today. That was fun! So many people excited when Morton Dill appeared; so many people sad when Ian and Barbara left. It's neat being part of a group watching it. Cool seeing folks who are primarily familiar with the 2005+ show experiencing bits of the old one-- a lot of flabbergasted posts in chat when the Doctor mentioned he constructed the TARDIS.

Is it just me, or did they forget to show "The Ice Warriors"?

I didn't notice. Not that I care because I never cared for the serial.

Besides, the wonderful The Web of Fear just started! :D

Apparantly it was so bad the people in charge of German TV in the 70s completely rejected Doctor Who based on watching that serial alone.

I don't blame them if that's all they had to go on. Pity considering the next two serials are very good. I can't remember how good Fury From the Deep since I've only seen a fan construction years ago, so perhaps even more.

"The Three Doctors" was on today and I loved it. From the classic Doctors I've seen enough to kinda judge them (1-3 & 6-7) I think the second Doctor is probably my favorite and seeing him in color was fantastic.

I'm a bit late to the party, but if anyone can recommend a couple of must see serials, I'd happily take suggestions.

My exposure to ye olde Doctors was both minimal and ages ago, but I did manage to catch The Ark, Tomb of the Cybermen, Terror of the Autons and Genesis of the Daleks so far this time around, so I can at least say I've seen one for each Doctor, and I'd like to keep that going. :D

Hardcore Whovians might disagree, but “City of Death” is my favorite 4th Doctor serial. It’s as close to a synthesis of his seven-year run as I can find. With Julian Glover and cameos by John Cleese and Eleanor Bron, it’s just fun.

Why do you think hardcore Whovians would disagree? City of Death is generally considered one of the best classic Who serials.

To answer dodge's question, I'm a huge fan of Season 14, which kicks off on Tuesday and covers most of Wednesday (the extra serial on that day, Horror of Fang Rock is a smashing story, too). Really, you general can't go wrong by jumping in on any of the marathon days for Tom Baker. There's the occasional rubbish story here and there, but they're usually worth watching, too, for Tom Baker and who ever his companion is. He had some of the best companions.

However, I'm obviously biased. ;)

Well, if you want to keep up the one-each pattern, then Caves of Androzani, Vengeance on Varos (Revelation not being in the twitch run), and any from Ghost Light, Curse of Fenric and Survival.

Is it the only dalek story that's being missed or are they all being skipped.

I can remember the ABC in Australia did a run through from An Earthly Child to Survival but all the Dalek stories were skipped because of an issue over royalties.

According to BroaDWcast.org, The War Games and all Dalek stories after that (except Genesis) were skipped. The Dalek was edited out of the four-part version of The Five Doctors.

It was around the time the Nation Estate was playing hardball with the new series.

I was uncertain how Douglas Adams’ stewardship is seen. Once I spent time over at Gallifrey Base, too much time, and I’ve come to doubt my True Believer status. ;)

I’m heartened to learn that that serial is held in some high regard.

"The Two Doctors" (airing on July 17) also features the Second Doctor, so I wouldn't want to miss that; "Vengeance on Varos" is pretty good and I find "The Trial Of A Time Lord" to be pretty memorable, although I liked the framing story more than the actualy stories that were displayed. For the Seventh Doctor's era I find it starts tp become worthwhile with "Delta and the Bannermen" and gets only better from there, due to the introduction of Ace. Watching the beginning of "Time and the Rani" might also be fun, just to see Sylvester McCoy dressed as the Sixth Doctor (including wig!) regenerate into his own Doctor.
