Spoilers Classic Race All But Confirmed

This is one of my favorite exchanges in the episode. Cutting-and-pasting from IMDB:

First Talosian: [talking about Pike, who is being held in a Talosian prison cell] It appears, Magistrate, that the intelligence of the specimen is shockingly limited.

The Keeper: This is no surprise, since his vessel was baited here so easily with a simulated message. As you can read in its thoughts, it is only now beginning to suspect that the survivors and encampment were a simple illusion we placed in their minds.

Captain Christopher Pike: You're not speaking, yet I can hear you.

The Keeper: You will note the confusion as it reads our thought transmissions.

Captain Christopher Pike: All right then, telepathy. You can read my mind, I can read yours. Now, unless you want my ship to consider capturing me an unfriendly act...

The Keeper: You'll now see the primitive fear threat reaction. The specimen is about to boast of his strength, the weaponry of his vessel, and so on. Next, frustrated into a need to display physical prowess, the creature will throw himself against the transparency.

[Pike does so]

Captain Christopher Pike: If you were in here, wouldn't you test the strength of these walls, too? There's a way out of any cage, and I'll find it!

The Keeper: Despite its frustration, the creature appears more adaptable than our specimens from other planets. We can soon begin the experiment.

I love this! And it's "the experiment". So you might be right. Maybe it is how they get off. They want to watch Pike and Vina try to put together their own physical version of Sim City.
Which apparently includes SEX. (repopulating the planet)
Them Bald Bitches are the ultimate pre-verts!!!
Invading someones mind as well as their bedroom!!
:eek::wtf::eek: :drool:

*readies bucket of cold water*

Don't bother...
I've got a wicked-ass head cold and sore throat at the moment, and typing the word SEX, is about as far as I'm interested in engaging in that activity.
I'm even sleeping on the couch tonight, much to the Ms' dismay.
:ack:

That's the Roddenberry Magic at work.

And doing some loose mental math in my head, they'd have the least intelligent, most easily controllable population of inbreeds within two centuries. Easy to have their way with and easy to keep happy, so they don't put up a wall of negative emotion...

... which brings us to a problem. What's the connection to Pike here, in the "present"? He's off the planet. There's nothing for him to do for them. He's not going to create that sheep population. Unless they want to switch gears and see what else they can do with him off-world. Enter the distress signal.

I can be a football fan, but if I dislike the Dallas Cowboys, I don't feel compelled to go specifically into Cowboys forums and drive their fans shithouse by needling them about how much their players underperform and suck, their management is incompetent, and their coaches are idiots. I'll stick to talking about teams I like and follow, and leave those fans to their peace.

You may not do that but many others do. I do post in a football forum, and there are always many people who are constantly complaining. It got to a point that they have invented nicknames for each other. Those who are mostly positive about the team are called Sunshine pumpers, and the critics are called WLPs (Whinny little pussies).

The football analogy works in a different way. scifi fans tend to pick a show as their team, and the other shows are competition. We used to have team DS9 vs team B5. Now we have team Discovery vs team Orville, though it is a much more friendly rivalry. And those on team Orville will always praise their show no matter what since that is the side they picked. Even if Discovery season 2 turns out to be the greatest in TV history, it will still pale in comparison to Orville among the team Orville. Any praise they offer will be done grudgingly and there will be complains about fanwank etc.

It would be so much better if people didn't feel the need to stick to a campaign. I have no way to prove this but I bet some people like Discovery more than they let on, or don't hate it as much as they let on, but they don't want to destroy their image.

Others probably really don't care about the show at all but they love the reactions. They post one thing and they know everyone will be all over it. It has to be interesting for someone to post something any time and know exactly what everyone else is going to say. When you can do that, it means you can control the exact flow of discussion whenever you want, and everyone will fall into their respective positions, practically on cue.

Pretty sure I know exactly who you're talking about.

I'm not wired that way. I've already been rather critical of some of the casting choices made for The Orville season two. I'm not a fan of fanwank. What is going on with The Orville (casting of many former Trek stars) is just a different style of fanwank.

If Discovery season two is good, I'll praise it. Because I always want Trek to be good. I simply didn't find season one very good, by either the standards of Star Trek, or modern TV in general.

Pretty sure if anyone does this, they know who they are too.

If the appearance of the Talosians is brief and integral to the story, it could be really cool. If it's a "Prime Spock phone-a-friend" shoehorn deal a la Star Trek Into Darkness, it would be crappy. Hopefully, they pull off the former, but we can't be sure until we see it.

It could be cool, if it was something done on its own. For me, these kinds of appearances lose their impact after a while.
