Spoilers Classic Race All But Confirmed

Ok. I'll use a Trek example. I don't like Enterprise, but i don't go into the Enterprise forum and shit on it. But hey that's just me.

That seems a bit odd that you never discuss the pros and cons of the various shows.

Same. Go look through every page of the ENT or VOY forum. I've hardly posted a single response to anything in there ever. I'm not a big fan (I don't DISLIKE them, I just have no particular passion for them whatsoever), but I see no reason to intrude on the lively debates big fans of those shows want to have with outright needling and general irritant behavior. Doesn't serve anyone well....unless you're looking for a fight I guess...

You'd be surprised. I already have The World of The Orville book, my wife the four division patches and I'm stalking online forums daily for information on a DVD/Blu-ray release of season one.

It is a show that is simply fun in a way Star Trek hasn't been in a long time, outside of the Abrams films. There is an actual sense of adventure to The Orville that I find sorely missing in Star Trek: Discovery.

There's energy and imagination and a little ambition to it that the Trek corporate product can't manage. And by its nature it lacks the ponderous solemnity of later Trek.

Just about every week I've been skeptical during the story set-up and delighted by the last act.

Discovery is the current and future face of the franchise. Further, the showrunners have basically been given the keys to the kingdom and are in charge of TV Trek in general. Why wouldn't Star Trek fans want to discuss that direction, even if they don't like it? This is a discussion forum, after all. There's no "big fan of Discovery" requirement for admission.

I can understand why people who really like Discovery get tired of seeing it criticized, but, at the same time, I can tell you that it gets equally tiring sifting through endless posts, often mocking, that boil down to "like it or leave."

There simply isn't enough substance or depth there for anyone to actually be that passionate about.

Another point about this, you can argue about substance and depth on pretty much anything, including the original Star Trek. Which passionate fans were engaging in a letter writing campaign to save it after its first season.

I hate to interrupt all the deep and meaningful discussion about Spock's beard, Klingon hair, Number One's pants and hairstyle, etc....but....

Did nobody see the Trekmovie.com tweet that indicates Kurtzman teased an appearance by the Talosians in S2? And editor Scott Gamzon confirmed but retweeting with "I might be editing this episode right now."

I wonder if maybe the Talosians will HAVE HAIR??!???!? :guffaw:

Discuss...(and commence obligatory accusations of pandering and fanwankery as per usual)!
I freaking love The Cage! So, this is great news! Hopefully they pull it off successfully!

Why is it odd? I don't like the show. Why would I or should I waste time and energy talking about something I'm not particularly fond off?
It's the Internet man! You need to get worked up about stuff that you don't like or care about! Especially when ranting about it is pointless, it's all the more crucial. Get with the program man!

Talosians with Hair? The Orville already went there :D

Never said discussion wasn't warranted or welcome, nor would I say that anyone needs a membership card to participate. Please don't put words in my mouth. Trying to cause trouble and vomiting negativity at people repeatedly is not discussion, though. I personally have not seen you doing that...so I'm assuming you're advocating for others positions there.

People often post as though the producers are their audience, as if their posts are a suggestion box entry. Others just do it because they want the conflict. Neither rmotivation is something that makes sense to me.

I'd have to say that if you go to a message board dedicated to fan discussion about a series or movie, regardless of your take on it, you should EXPECT to have to "sift through endless posts" that lean toward support and praise. Most people go to talk, speculate, debate the merits of something they LIKE.

On the other hand, the critical posts are often there to derail or start conflict in topics that are not dedicated to complaining or criticizing. People seem to feel compelled to counter the positivity, as if someone is keeping score somewhere and you can't possibly just sit back and allow it to continue...because damnit my voice needs to be heard!

I can be a football fan, but if I dislike the Dallas Cowboys, I don't feel compelled to go specifically into Cowboys forums and drive their fans shithouse by needling them about how much their players underperform and suck, their management is incompetent, and their coaches are idiots. I'll stick to talking about teams I like and follow, and leave those fans to their peace.

Perhaps the point is that it's not the debate and criticism, it's the way people present those opinions. Some do it pointedly, smartly and respectfully. Others come across as the kid in the classroom just flicking the ears of the kid in front and saying antagonistic things under their breath trying to illicit a violent explosion.

I find one approach reasonable, balanced, respected. The other...not so much. That's not me "discouraging discussion or debate." If anyone feels that way, that's on them. I simply question the behavior.

We've actually gotten waaay of track. I'd like to go back to discussion of the show.

This is largely my concern. I want free and open discussion whether people like the show or not. What gets under my skin is the digs at the production team (not real Star Trek fans, ruining Star Trek, etc). Maybe it's my fault because I get offended on their behalf, but it's annoying. I would love a discussion on the actual merits of the show but that genuinely feels, if not impossible, very difficult. :(

I would prefer Tholians, but I guess Pike, means Pike´s rivals. Curious what will they do, becouse they seemed to be completely isotionalistic.

I'd welcome that. It might make sense to come up with more story as to what justified there being a death penalty for going to Talos IV. I've never quite sat with why it specifically had to be a death penalty, other than drama in The Menagerie.

There's clear established groundwork for the Tholian to appear at some point. Dialogue from The Tholian Web indicates pre existing knowledge of them.

I'd like to see that too

I would LOVE to see what DSC could do with the Tholians...ideally this would include a scene inside a Tholian ship.

So how do you film a searing hot methane environment anyway? :vulcan:
