Cinderella story. Outta nowhere...

Funny, when GW Bush wanted to revamp Social Security, Democrats hollered and screamed. When asked what their plan was, they gave none, saying that was better than changing the current system. Now, replace GW Bush with Obama, Social Security with Healthcare, Democrats with Republicans and run the play again. This time, when asked what their plan is, and the Republicans don't offer one, they're obstructionists.:rolleyes:
That both parties are obstructionist isn't exactly news. ;)

I'm so glad this special election happened here and now in Massachusetts and that we took hold of a collossal, once in a lifetime opportunity to have our say.

Yeah, 'once in a lifetime'... until the next election.

Based on the many hopes and well wishes from the rest of the country who held out hope for this happy result... I think I can speak for an overwhelmingly excited electorate here in my state when I offer a sincere: you are very, very welcome :techman:

Yes, I'm sure all those who hoped for health care/insurance reform (however watered down it became during all these 'death-panel'-screams, holocaust-comparisons and anti-health-insurance-activists asking for money for their medical treatments) will just thank you SO much.

According to some political scientists at UCLA, Brown is more liberal than Snowe.
Well, he's a Massachusetts Republican, not a Texas Republican. :rommie:

I know. If he wants to keep his job in 3 years he's going to have to remain that way. The fact that teabaggers are considering this a victory is ridiculous.
No, this election doesn't really matter much either way. If it did, there would have been Brownies and Chocolate Chip Cookies on sale when I went to vote.

It was awesome to see the excitement and momentum build, and then finally rev up to an explosion.
Actually, he barely squeaked by....

He said some good things today while in Washington. One thing that I liked was when he said that he didn't owe anyone anything - that he was going to vote in the interest of Massachusetts, not in the interest of any particular group.

I'm sure that won't sit well with some ultra-conservatives.

I'm starting to like this guy, then. :p

And who cares. Small percentage of people that can stamp their feet just like the ultra-liberals.

Not knocking his victory but he worked his ass off, spent a ton of money and won a 5 point victory over someone who didn't even try.

In a state with 11% Republicans that hasn't elected a Republican to the Senate since the SEVENTIES. In a state that has 94% of it's elected officials from the Democrat party. In a state where they continued to elect a man who killed a woman, conspired with the Russians during the 80's, who was a drunk and womanizer. A man whose life was prolonged by the same health care his plan would take away from the citizens - until Scott Brown.

The plain truth we pulled off a great victory that has had reverberations all over the country. Continue not knocking him as much as you want. I expect those grapes are pretty sour. :techman:

In a state that had Republican governors from 1997 to 2007.

[some bullshit about Kennedy] health care his plan would take away from the citizens - until Scott Brown.

As far as I know, Brown voted FOR Massachusetts' current health insurance system (which was, funnily enough, implemented by a Republican).

Yeah, like the citizens of Massachusetts would elect a woman that, like Bush, went on holiday during when she was needed elsewhere.
At least the nude model () showed some dedication to get elected.

This sends a message that Americans do not want a health care monstrosity jammed down our throats.
By voting for someone who supported 2006 Massachusetts health care reform, which requires all residents to purchase health insurance? Yes. Good message.
No, they voted for someone who will vote against an abomanation of a bill. What happened in 2006 is immaterial. He obviously saw the light.
From Scott Brown's own website.

In Massachusetts, I support the 2006 healthcare law that was successful in expanding coverage, but I also recognize that the state must now turn its attention to controlling costs.

Yes. "Saw the light" indeed. Here's your conservative savior. Pro-choice, hands off approach to gay marriage, and for socialism as long as you can pay for it.

Thanks but I already have a Saviour.

As for Senator Brown, he simply represents the vote that torpedoes this version of universal health care. And that's a good and moral thing.

That's bullshit and you're a liar.

Scott is a liberal. Suck it up Nancy.

Dude, do you NEED to attack the guy? Where's the tolerance of different opinions?
It's not a difference of opinion, it's a lie. It doesn't matter how many times you repeat a lie...it remains a lie.

I don't have to tolerate lying to further a political agenda.

Whatever. If you're going to have that attitude go for it. Makes you look silly.

Anyway, what do you think the dems will or should do with regard to UHC at this point? Do you think that they also know it's dead or no?

It's dead. What they'll do is coalesce around the popular parts of the bill, such as the elimination of "preexisting conditions". I think what they'll do is do several smaller bills instead of a single massive one. It'll be at least several months before they pick it back up. Obama and the Democratic leadership are going to focus on jobs now for two reasons. A) It's what people want and B) It will take away a huge Republican talking point. The GOP was planning to run opposition to the Health Care bill in November. It would've worked, as we saw on Tuesday, but you can't run against something that won't exist.

Knock it off. You can call his comments a lie, but avoid the personal attacks on him. The "Suck it up Nancy" part really pushes it over the line as well.

There have been two moderator posts in this thread already asking people to back off the personal comments and calm down, and this is the third. After this it just goes straight to infractions.

Air America Radio closing, filing for bankruptcy

If only those "stupid Americans" would have listened to Air America!

I'm trying really hard to find the relevance between this and the election in Massachusetts unless you're just trying to turn the topic into a general anti-liberal thread, which is against the rules. You can discuss a specific event or policy (and indeed, this in its own topic would have been fine), but if you're just out to bash an entire ideology that's off limits.
