I don't care that it's the oldest cliché out there but bring Chuck's dad back! You did it with Bryce and you can do it now. Scott Bakula played the role so well and i loved every scene he was in.

I have no doubt this will happen. Look at how quickly they glossed over the death, no funeral, no teary goodbyes. Nothing.

Yay, Jeffster is back! :D

Competently made episode, but just as I feared, Chuck has run out of juice. There just isn't any compelling what's-at-stake this season. Ellie and Chuck wanting to reconnect with mommy and Sarah being afraid of committment just doesn't do it. Remember the good old days when it was possible that Casey might actually kill Chuck to prevent him from falling into the wrong hands? Now that's a what's-at-stake that can drive a series.

Also, it's distasteful that Chuck is deceiving his pregnant sister in order to be a spy. There are other careers that an adrenaline junkie/do-gooder could opt for that don't put his life at risk so much - paramedic for instance. Alternatively, and better, just tell Ellie that she has to cope with the fact that her brother is an ADULT and has the right to make his own choices in life. Millions of families have loved ones serving in the military and at the risk of their lives, and somehow they manage not to fall apart. This scenario makes Ellie just look like a control freak and Chuck like a coward. Ugh.

Since the ratings suck (fourth in the demo for the hour), it's most likely academic. They'll finish out the season and that's that.

Also, Zach's hair is too short. :p

I know Temis thinks this show has maybe one good season left, but for now, I'm still loving it. :techman:

I think I overestimated things - this season is pretty much out of juice now. But that's okay, a show should run out of juice before it gets cancelled so we don't feel like we missed out on anything.

In all fairness, she's been saying that since the beginning of Season 2.

Yeah, Temis is full of (I shall be nice) "non-mainstream" opinions. IMHO.

Hey someone has to come in here and tell the truth! :rommie: The writers have stretched this premise about a season and a half beyond where I thought it should have collapsed. For it to be collapsing now is no shame for them. I look forward to seeing whatever they and many of the actors do next. The only thing open to question is whether the show will be cancelled mid-season or will be allowed to run for a full season. That probably depends on how well the rest of NBC's lineup does.

I just don't think the premise is collapsing. Every season has proved to me that they are capable of coming up with new ideas and making it work. I never thought they'd make Chuck a full-fledged spy, but they did it, and they did it without any damage to any of the characters. Casey grew to accept Chuck as a friend and a co-worker. Chuck and Sarah dropped their "will they/won't they" game and finally ended up being together. The show has adopted new premises to fit their characters' growth. I thought this week's episode was fantastic. If they can keep coming up with new story arcs, I trust that I will be entertained by them. The only real hope I have is that they are able to end the show on their own terms.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but i just can't see how the show has "lost its juice".. it has simply moved on beyond the initial premise.

If by season 4 Chuck would have still been the bumbling idiot who has to be saved time and again by his handlers and occasionally saves the day due to his nerd knowledge then it would have run out of juice (and probably wouldn't have made it to season 4).

The characters developed and changed (for me in a good way) and it's now up to the writers to give us interesting and above all entertaining storylines and with 2 episodes into the 4th season i can say they are succeding very well.

Chuck is not a serious show.. we have gratuitious near-nudity once in a while with the gorgeous Yvonne Strahovski (and sometimes Ryan McPartlin), an unlikely but hilarious team up (Casey/Morgan) and something for the heart too seeing Chuck and Sarah work on their relationship and growing closer (and judging from various interviews and panels the writers are well aware that the viewers are sick of the split 'em up routine for dramatic reasons and won't do it again). In its un-seriousness it works very well and it is highly recommended entertainment and it does this consistently so i'm hoping they get booked for a 5th season provided the writers don't run out of steam.
