Ziggy zaki ziggy zakki oye oye!

The thing is simply just downloading a martial art in your head wouldn't work, your bodys conditioning has to also be in good shape in order for it to be effective, there wouldn't really be away for chuck to kick ass like that without being totally gassed, but thats semantics and it's just a show haha

With five hours a week being hogged by Leno, the biggest threat to Chuck now is how the upfronts go. Maybe that's the delay - NBC upfronts are Monday. Depending on how many promising shows they end up with, Chuck could live or die.

Here are the candidates:

Drama

Comedy

Reality - a gratifyingly short list. :bolian:

And early word on how they're doing.

Fortunately, none of them sound very interesting so I'm comfortable rooting against all of them. :rommie: A little conflicted about Day One, being sf and all, but I haven't heard of anyone in the cast except Xander Berkeley and he's just a guest star so phooey. Katee Sackhoff's show is Yet Another Cop Show, double-phooey.
Surely Have I Got News For You should be listed as a comedy show... It's a Comedy Panel Quiz...

I've only seen the episodes where Jeremy Clarkson hosted or was a guest, but it's interesting that NBC would be developing a HIGNFY for the U.S. They don't really have anything to pair it up with. A show like this would fit better around The Daily Show or The Colbert Report.

I want to see the entire cast of Chuck guest host Leno.

That might not be called for:

If this holds true, I'm totally buying Guy, Temis, Dagman, Skywalker and everyone else massive amounts of beer.

Ooooh watch out! Alcohol doesn't affect Vortas so we can drink a crew of Klingons under the table. :rommie:

Game shows count as "reality shows" nowadays. (They used to just be called "game shows" but I guess that's not good enough anymore. ;)) Comedy is scripted only, same as drama.
I certainly hope her "source" is right. Any word on how reliable these people are?
Deadline Hollywood Daily really does seem to get the inside scoop. Nikki Finke is definitely not just some bozo with a blog.

Well it's not exactly a game show either. It's 2 groups of 2 comedians being funny about the weeks news, scoring points on stuff like guessing what news story the headline was about, or what story the picture is linked to. The point isn't really the quiz so much as the comedy.

As happy as I am if this is true, I have to concede that some of the comments on the article are correct: this doesn't make good business sense. Even if they change Chuck;s timeslot I still see it as a niche show, not a ratings smash. But then again, some of CBS's better-rated shows defy explanation too, as does House (it's become so formulaic sometimes I wonder how it retains viewers. The characters?).

The description says "teams" which makes no sense unless somebody wins - that's a game show. If there's no winning or losing, what is the purpose of scoring points?

I like there to be a clear distinction between scripted and unscripted shows so I can mentally shuffle the unscripted ones into the garbage where they belong. ;) Game shows should be relegated to non-prime-time slots like in the good old days. They're a blight on the TV landscape and hog up timeslots that should go to scripted comedies and dramas, so that we can have at least a few decent ones surviving.

With any luck, NBC won't pick that show up tomorrow when they do their upfronts. Not that they have a lot that's worthwhile anyway, but that one's at the bottom of the barrel. If you want to do a comedy show, fine, but have the confidence in your material that you don't need to turn it into a silly game with scoring and teams. Jon Stewart doesn't need to do that, and anyone less talented than him should just stay off TV.

NBC's overall desperation must have been a factor in the renewal. Chuck is a niche show but TV is going increasingly niche, except of course the broad-appeal stuff like CSI, but that stuff bores me because it's trying for broad appeal. I demand stuff that appeals to my individual niche tastes. I just can't get into the broad-brush stuff. :D

I'm the same way. And I think that it's due in large part to the success of "reality" shows that niche-based shows are allowed to survive on network TV (even though Chuck, since it's a mix of everything, shouldn't really BE niche). And furthermore, I think we Chuck fans have been lucky two years in a row. Last year the writers' strike gave Chuck more of a chance at survival than it probably would've had under normal circumstances, and then this year NBC's hand was forced by having very few hit shows on the schedule so they had to relax their standards.

I still think Chuck would be a huge hit if it were farmed out to USA (ideally) or Syfy, but being produced by Warner Bros and not Universal makes that unlikely if it's canceled by NBC.

The thing is UK TV has tons of these shows, Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You, QI, Would I Lie to You, 8 out of 10 Cats, Arguemental, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and so on. Nearly all of them are fantastic and very funny, and work really well.

The teams score points, one wins at the end, but the point scoring really doesn't matter and half the time points are just given randomly. It's about the comedy.

From time to time the US networks seems to pick one to try and replicate, but I don't know if it's a difference in our styles of humour or what, but they never seem to work.

^Sounds like "Whose Line..." - "the show where everything's made up and the points don't matter." ;)

Well, except its more about just shooting the shit than any kind of performance.
I'd like to see it just to see if a panel show would work in America... the closest thing I've seen is that Al Franken thing, but even that's just a scripted fake debate more than anything else.

^Wow. I'm really surprised they renewed Medium. It's one of my favorite shows, but the writers seem to have run out of ideas and have been running in circles as far as character development goes this year. I know, I know, the writing doesn't have anything to do with the decision to renew or not, but I would have half expected the show runners to be saying, "You know what, I think this cake is done. Let's move on." ;)

On the other hand, they've done some great stuff in the past, and I think there is lots of potential in the premise for growth. So if the writers & producers will just DO IT next season, I'll be a happy clam. :D

Still, I'd much rather have Chuck continue than get another season of Medium. I don't like having two shows I enjoy "fighting" each other for renewal. :(

Once I heard on this board that Lifetime pays in part for Medium, I never thought it was in real danger of being canned, especially with it being close to that 100 episode threshold.

But I always found the reports of Chuck's renewal that came this morning a bit sketchy, especially since they were saying one thing while the cast & producers were saying another, namely that the decision wouldn't be made for a few weeks.

If it isn't official tomorrow we'll be in for a nervous fortnight...

There was an American version of Never Mind The Buzzcocks done for MTV, I think, that didn't last very long. Maybe you can find some clips about.

As expected, NBC did not announce Chuck's renewal today, instead opting to make us wait until the 19th, and said that "a new show" will pair up with Heroes on Mondays. I guess that means the 8pm hour (with Leno at 10), in which case that suggests they're going to move Chuck to another night or its fate is still up in the air.

*sigh*

I don't know anymore. Like I've said the Save Chuck campaign has made them really reconsider I think. They should at least let Josh know what they're doing so he has enough time to take it to The CW.

NBC may say they are waiting until the 19th. But the cast and Josh Schwartz have gone on record saying that they learn the fate of Chuck on May 5th. And that as soon as they know, it was implied that we, the fans, would know. As in leaking the information early. This implies that the suits have now made their decisions what is staying and that once they have finished playing "shuffle the cards with shows' names around the different time slots" board game, they will release their fall schedule. If it's not Monday, maybe we'll get Wednesdays. Take over Knight Rider's old slot.
