Casey's former teacher has turned double agent. Plus: meet the Awesomes (Morgan Fairchild, Bruce Boxleitner guest star).

This looks like it's gonna be good just from the casting alone! See you all after the show for my spoiler-laden response.

I don't watche the show,, but something quite funny happened this evening. My son wanted to watch "Heroes", so I changed the channel to it while "Chuck" was still on. The moment I did, Adam Baldwin's character said "You are starting to seriously damage my calm".

In case anyone needs an explanaiton, that's almost exactly the same as a line that his character in "Serenity" utters.

Yeah, I caught that and was seriously lol'ing when he said that.

This episode was somewhat of a letdown from the successive "Awesome!"'s of the last few weeks. Honestly, I blame Morgan Fairchild. Having Awesome's parents come in and be so un-Awesome was the first real misstep this show has taken. Having Chuck and Ellie's dad mentioned as still being alive and uninvolved in their lives feels like another bad step. I thought that Ellie would put her foot down to Daddy Awesome and tell him that if anyone was going to give her away at her wedding it would be Chuck. I would have preferred that over this sudden mooning over an absent father.

The Buy More scenes were great. Emmett really captures that character of the smarmy boss whose ass needs kicking. But no Anna again this week, even at the store meetings. What has happened to her? Did Casey really sign her up for CIA training?

Casey really saved this episode from going lower than an Above Average. It was nice to see a Casey-centric episode for once. And Chuck realizing that Casey's center is anything but calm was great.

I enjoyed the ep... but it was a bit of a let down after the last few eps they've had

I was okay with the casting of The Awesomes, but they just didn't do a whole lot. They, frankly, should have had their own episode.

I'm pretty sure the actress is filming a movie or something, but I did notice that her picture was on the wall behind Emmett at the end.

I will say that this is the worst episode of "Chuck" that I've seen. But as I was still entertained, and I still had several laugh-out-loud moments, Chuck's worst still ranks as some of TV's best.

I thought that The Awesomes were entirely Un-Awesome. I would have preferred it if they would have acted in a way that everyone thought was great (indeed, Awesome) and managed to be infuriating because of it - which was sort of the vibe we were getting last week when they were mentioned. Instead, we got manipulative, smothering Un-Awesomeness.

Ah, well. Can't have everything.

:D

I lol'd when Casey uttered that phrase too (aww...Serenity love), but underwhelmed, though I loved the Awesome castings, Dixon!, and Casey's 70's do.

Above Average. They've definitely done better and this one was hittin' the slash buttons pretty hard (what do we call it? Chasey? :rommie:) and I didn't really care all that much about Casey's mentor issues but there was some good stuff on the Chasey front (of the strictly platonic variety, those two guys have the most interesting relationship on the show), good set-up for the inevitable day we finally meet Bartowski, Sr. I wonder who would be good to cast for the role...too bad Shatner's too old...

EDIT: I got it! Bartowski Sr should be played by Gregory Itzin (Pres. Logan from 24). Regardless of whether they want the guy to be nice or mean, good or evil, stupid or smart, Itzin can nail it.

Anna's back baby!!!! Next week's episode has an Anna and Morgan element to it in the previews on my cable guide!!

^ Good idea on casting Itzin. :D

Thanks - and there's a "family resemblance" that works. One of my pet peeves are parent and child or sibling characters who in no way look like they could be related.

Morgan Fairchild receives three proposals for an affair every day. I assume that any fictional character that she is portraying is just as sought after... It's just a game of averages after that if any of her children look like her husband.

How can you not watch Chuck?!?! Oh, Neroon! Chuck is the BEST lighthearted, warmhearted, good-for-your-geek-soul entertainment on TV today! You NEED to be watching this show!!!

That said, this week took just a little shine off the Awesome. Just a little. I agree that the Awesomes should have been really awesome. I wish they had been great to Ellie, completely alleviated her fears, been the perfect in-laws, and still managed to creep her out. The cliché of the overbearing, over-controlling in-laws has been done to death. It was a waste of the casting to have them be such caricatures.

And I don't want to find Chuck & Ellie's parents. Not at all. Again, the long-lost parent plot is really hard to make fresh. I mean, I'm sure the writers could find a way, but one of the things I've really liked about the show is how Chuck and Ellie are each other's family. Ellie should want Chuck to walk her down the aisle, period. I don't want to find out that Bartowski Sr. is some undercover agent or something. It would seriously invade the normalcy of Chuck's family life. But I have the feeling that's where they might take this new thread. :(

The rest of the show was awesome as usual. I loved the Buy More guys fighting for the title of worst in customer service, then turning around when threatened with a month of Saturday closings. I loved that Awesome was clearly tuned in to Ellie's discomfort with how his parents were behaving. Casey's lack of a calm center was fab. And of course, the references to his "calm" were a complete excuse to pay homage to his line in Serenity. Love it.

I'll add to the consensus of possibly the weakest this season, but then it's been a very good season so far...
They must be saving the Awesome Snrs for more later. They didn't even get to meet Chuck.

I was wondering about that and ...
An Awesome couple could equal secret agents that Chuck may flash on when he sees them.
