The issue had resolved itself in my absence because the people in this thread are largely mature enough to talk things out and listen to each other. All you are accomplishing here is opening it back up again, which I'm definitely not having. The matter is closed in this thread, that goes for you as well as for anybody feeling the urge to respond.


@Forbin , just for the future, calling for mod intervention in a regular post is only working under the assumption that we mods read everything on this board. I hope it is obvious that we don't have nearly enough time for that. Instead, it is better to report a post, as that brings it directly to our attention.
That said, I'm glad you and @theenglish got to and understanding without our help.

On the contrary, this is specifically about the reaction to Odyssey casting.

I did admit that I was being a little snarky in my original comment and also defined the term I used.

Looks like i won't be able to see this in the theater. To the people who have seen this. Is this movie best if seen at the theater imax? Will it be just as good on a tv or smartphone? I feel like im missing out on a summer movie event. Same with Spidey. 🥺

That's a weird question. Of course the experience is far better on IMAX than watching any movie a smartphone.

Now whether seeing it on IMAX versus a regular theater, that's up for debate. Personally, I think it's must-see on IMAX because that what the film was specifically produced for. But only if you have the means to watch it that way. If not, seeing it on a regular theater screen is not inherently a bad experience. I've seen the film both ways and I enjoyed it immensely either way.

I guess im asking will it still be fantastic on the television, tablet or smartphone. Will I be missing out on anything? I wasnt trying ask a weird question. It wasn't meant to be.

Just saw it last night. I could nitpick if I felt like it, but the performances were all so good, I left feeling impressed and happy. Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway particularly blew me away. I loved the overall message about how breaking the rules and norms that hold society together lead to breakdown.

Yeah, if you don't live near one of those 40 IMAX theatres in the world then you're out of luck.

“We’re heading into Siren territory. I want to be the first person to hear their song”

Proceeds to have the most traumatic experience so far. Again he loses one of his men

Yup, I loved that theme, too. It's a fascinating interpretation on Nolan's part and I'm not sure enough people appreciate that thematic exploration.

Well, it's not IMAX in general, but IMAX 70mm that's only in 40 locations in the world. I was able to see it on a regular IMAX, in fact, the tallest in the world (but third largest due to its width). I would've love to seen it on 70mm but I'm content with how I saw it.

I'm glad Nolan's version kept Odysseus' foolishness because that's a crucial piece of the story. While he was a hero and brilliant strategist and trickster, his hubris lead to many stupid decisions, all of which lead to the death of his men. The sun god's cattle was the one exception.

One of the biggest shifts I've seen with heroes across reading to film is the shift to expectations of heroes and flawless. The lesson of hubris has been lost over time.

Agreed...and that drives me crazy. And while I know either of them aren't inherently flawless, I think that's one of the main reaons I didn't like Superman or Captain America for a long time. Or at least among my favorite heroes. Whereas Spider-Man has always been my favorite.

Granted, that's not the same as Odysseus and other classic heroes in mythology and beyond, but still within the same realm.
