Please don't do that. Broad-brush insults against an entire group of people, and labeling them something abhorrent, based on your own personal dislike and biased assumption of how they ALL must think, is bigotry.
I'm not going to get into that with you here. I was referring to big C conservative Republicans, not little C conservatives. Big C conservative Republicans are inherently racist. There's no getting around that. Happy to discuss elsewhere.

This article should be stickied…all over the internet. Thanks for posting this. I might have my students in my upcoming (brand new) Film As History course in the fall read it for discussion purposes.
I hope you do. If nothing else, the article could be an excellent teaching tool and, as you said, a great way to start on a discussion about film criticism.

Indeed.

I've long considered myself conservative though voting is different. I have never once considered any race superior. Was taught at a conservative school all men are created equal. One of my first comments to my mom when I met a white general practicing Doctor was that I didn't know white people could be doctors because all the doctors in my life had been other races than me.

Broad brushing is frustrating. Yes, I'm guilty of it too.

And people mad over Helen's casting need to watch more movies and see Eartha Kitt acting as Helen.

FWIW, I'm conservative as well--contemporary politics has just pushed so far to the right in the last decade that I'm now considered radically left.

It doesn't change my original point that the people complaining about the casting in this movie are almost always the same people that claim the don't see colour--which was the relevant point to this thread.

People complaining about skin color miss the points of films.

When people stand up to be counted with a coalition that in 2026 largely stands for racism and bigotry/fascism (ICE), pedophilia (Epstein cover up), illegal wars, rampant inflation and the list goes on, they should expect to be called out for it.

Why? They're the same thing. Dear lord, I do hope you you are neither because I respect you and thought of you as one of the good ones.
Thank you, I try.
I am conservative, but, I like to think, moderately so. I think of myself as a bit right of center. I vote republican because of certain issues that I find more personally important than other issues, but I dislike the extreme right as much as I dislike the extreme left. My liberal friends think I'm too conservative, and my conservative friends think I'm too liberal. It's frustrating thinking for yourself . I absolutely bristle at 'all' conservatives being painted with that broad racist brush. As y'all might bristle at all liberals being called anti-Semitic commies. Like with any ideology, there's a scale.

I have the same experience. I'm principally conservative when it comes to finance and government control, yet I do support social programs that help those who need it. I'm liberal when it comes to multiculturalism and LGBTQ issues, but I don't believe I have to adopt the parlance of the day around those issues with my argument being that "correct" language has changed multiple times during my life so it will just change again.

"Stand up to be counted" puts way more weight into it than most people allot to thoughts about politics. I bet some people go for days without thinking about standing up to being counted with anything at all.

Okay, we're sounding more alike than your earlier post made me think.
We should probably all move on from this sidebar before the mods get mad.

Those people need to have more awareness of the world around them. But I agree that this subject should be dropped in this thread.

Your personal feelings about conservatives or Republicans are not relevant at all to this discussion. The time to "discuss elsewhere" was before making the statement. That is what TNZ is for.
