Kruge was scum, but at least he did get that honorable death. I doubt he was expecting to be able to be beamed up, anyway; surely he knew by then that Maltz would have been overpowered by the rest of the survivors. (A Klingon though he was, Maltz *was* outnumbered.)

People,

As I'm sure some of you know, one of the first choices to play Kruge was Edward James Olmos. I do think they made a good choice with Christopher Lloyd. My only problem was, from time to time, if you closed your eyes he sounded like Reverend Jim in command of a Klingon bird of prey! He sounded better when speaking his Klingonese lines, actually.

I do think his somewhat bombastic delivery did set the standard for future Klingon performances, like those of Gowron, Duras, Martok, even Worf. And of course, TSFS also greatly influenced the depiction of Klingon ships from then on, with birds of prey forming the bulk of many fleets we've seen, as well as the hulls turning from the more familiar grey-white to green.

My favorite moment is when Kruge realizes Kirk has tricked him into beaming his men aboard a ship about to explode, and he bolts up and shouts, "GET OUT! GET OUT OF THEEEERRRREE! GET OUTTTT!" It's one of those, "We got you, bastard" moments in movies I love!

Kirk should've told him that. Just to piss Kruge off.

He had it all in the palm of his hand but his philosophy of shoot first and ask questions later backfires on him in a big way.

His gunner is partly to blame for that...Kruge wanted more prisoners than just two. Alas, we the audience miss the chance to see Captain Esteban squeal like a bitch under Klingon torture.

Esteban, what a wimp. Here he is, on his science ship, sent to study the Genesis planet and he doesn't want to beam anyone down to check out an animal life form that pops up where one shouldn't be?!?!?!?

No wonder he was only in command of a science ship! One of the wimpiest Trek captains ever!

None of the Starfleet personnel outside of Our Heroes gets fair treatment, to be honest. You've got Esteban, who's a wuss; Styles, who's an arrogant prick; Admiral Morrow, who doesn't have the imagination to see past the book of Starfleet regulations, and that silly twit "Mr. Adventure"...

Chang is a far better villain than Kruge, But Christopher Lloyd IS Doctor Emmit Brown from "Back to the Future". I could see anyone else in that classic role.

You meant you couldn't see anyone else in that role..and I agree...Nor could I see Mr. Lloyd playing the father in THE SOUND OF MUSIC....but, again, only Lloyd could play reverend Jim...But Lloyd as the foil in Somewhere in Time? nah....

I wonder if the two have ever been in a movie together???

I liked Christopher Lloyd's performance. I would even say he was the Klingon with the most character and I agree with an earlier posters comment that he wasn't just another Viking wannabe.

Additionally, Kruge had some great lines:

Kirk: Beam the Vulcan up .. and we talk.

Kruge: Give me what I want and I'll consider it.

Kirk: You fool! Look around you! This planet is destroying itself!

Kruge: Yes. Exhilarating, isn't it!

Kirk: If we don't help each other, we'll die here!

Kruge: Perfect! That's the way it shall be! Give me Genesis!

No blah, blah, about honor and Sto'Va'Kor; just perfect villainy.

Kruge was like every character in TSFS that wasn't one of the Trek regulars: written as an idiot.
