Christopher Lee has passed away

George Lucas made a ton of mistakes and errors in judgment during the Prequels but casting Lee as Count Dooku wasn't one of them.

The only crime Lucas committed was being true to himself and his muse, and that's it. Most of the fans are pissed off because what they though was going to happen (a supposed script concerning a character name Lady Arkardy who was supposed to romance Anaikin and give birth to Luke & Leia being made into a movie) didn't happen. Also, they (and you) wanted the same characters acting the same way as in the main trilogy, forgetting that people in a prequel trilogy are going to be different, as would the set-up, civilizations, planets, spacecraft, etc.

D. Tull summed it up perfectly in this set of musings: people should read then and become a lot more wiser about the prequels than they are now.

Thanks for reading my mind and assuming what I wanted from the Prequels.

I actually say quite a few good things about the Prequels, a lot more than some on this board have said over the years. Yes, I think he made mistakes and yes, he did things I didn't like or enjoy. That doesn't make me an entitled fanboy throwing a tantrum because I recognize something I didn't enjoy or I wish he'd done something a little differently.

George isn't some monster who peed on our childhoods with Episodes I, II and III but he wasn't without his bad ideas, either. I don't need anybody else suggesting to me how to view the Prequels. I know how I feel about them, and I enjoy what I like or even love about them and I don't like the things that don't work for me.

Defending the Star Wars Prequels from the most mild of criticisms is a really important point to belabor in the man's memorial thread.

That's sarcasm, by the way.

^ Are you asking me? I wasn't calling for anyone to discuss or criticize the Prequels with my comment above, and Eddie wasn't criticizing them much either, really, except in a very mild and roundabout way as a means of complimenting the choice of casting Christopher Lee. No one was looking to have a conversation about them, regardless, except for Shaka Zulu.

Actually, I was agreeing with you. Could've phrased that better, perhaps.

Getting back to remembering Mr. Lee, the first film of his that I watched was an Astrid Lindgren adaptation, Mio in the Land of Faraway (yeah, had to google the English title). A mediocre children's fantasy film, but I enjoyed it as a kid. And Lee was great in it. His villain, the iron-clawed knight Kato, enslaved children by ripping their hearts out and replacing it with stone.
The film also starred Susannah York, and a very young Christian Bale.

Sorry about that.:vulcan:

Getting back on topic, a reminder that TCM is running a Christopher Lee marathon tomorrow (Monday the 22nd). My DVR is set.
