Christmas special

Why would a two thousand year old timelord want to go a nightclub??

I should look back at it. How do we know it's not a room in the TARDIS with holographic projectors? I like the kilt, though. Can't believe how people point it out as a "skirt"...

That said, it is a bit of a stretch, but other Doctors went swimming... until the pool leaked, as Mel was quick to complain about that in "Paradise Towers".

So why not? Maybe this is the TARDIS equivalent of a Kinect with "Just Dance 4" and he's going for the cardio. Two hearts and all, of course... :D

He's been around a bit. I think you can assume at some point he's danced.

After all the exes, he'd probably end up dejected. I'm still hoping there's more to the sceen than just the boring obvious and that it's a TARDIS room or something creative.

Oh crud. I just did a post. That song alone made my day and this a must-see event for actually showing another species point of view in a narratively clever (and oddly fun) way.
:techman:

That's the Goblin King? Oy, David Bowie let himself go! :ack:  :wtf:

(Aww, come on, somebody was bound to make a "Labyrinth" reference! :nyah: )

Jabba, too! :guffaw: But there's no argument form me, this episode arguably does it better. Good one-up, that's for sure - and Jabba was cool...

I have a feeling the Doctor is doing some sleuthing/alien fighting at the club. Sort of a mirror to how he was lurking around Rose's shop in the pilot episode to destroy the Autons. Does he also happen to be enjoying a little dancing... probably. Feels like a Doctorish thing to do - battle the aliens while simultaneously partying.

Another teaser

It's still a charming teaser as a whole, if not generic, it is an initial episode setting up characters, so let's see where this goes. At least the singalong is refreshing different, even if they needed three more instruments in the background to give the music tones and chords a little more depth. The lyrics do reminisce of some of the fairy tales of the 1800s, and - as with cartoons - were the original audiences for the old fairy tales adults?

Also, that clinches it -- looks like he really was in a bar then. Not too many incarnations would do so, but there's a first. The new doc is "the cool kid" now. Or the drunken barhopper, there's probably a new trope waiting in the wings, despite it being the most generic of venues. At least his introduction isn't popping up in the middle of a bathroom to make a stupid joke. Maybe that'll be the next incarnation.

I hope so. Infiltrating and sleuthing and trying to fit in, and not just being there to have a fun cool time because he's cool now. Seems like barrel scraping if the latter is really the intent. I agree with you, he's sleuthing to see what's up and he'll find his way to the goblin ship.

Not all incarnations would barhop, but I'm just going to roll with it until the scene and episode are shown in full. Other teased scenes got my attention in a good way, and RTD did say "fantasy", which makes people bring up other genre examples such as "Where the wild things are", "Wizard of Oz", "Labyrinth" - one I need to see again and not just because of the lion dude's costume, and so on...

That said, in a show that claims it can go anywhere in time and space, how are people not tired of the show being always set on modern day Earth for its main setting? Or Earth's past, where we finally get something interesting. The Classic era went to some time period on Earth for half its run, but the modern era pretty much says "hold muh beer" and topped the count with ease...
