Christmas Special News (Spoilers)

A middle ground would've been nice. I think Clara's originally intended exit would've been more than sufficient. Hell, it'd have probably been the best character exit than any of them, since Martha still came back for one unsatisfactory exit after another (with Mickey? Really?!)

Yes, my only nitpick with Clara leaving that way is that it basically makes her Rose in Titanic.

That's certainly one of the biggest WTFs around, just why are the two of them married anyway? It's one of the reasons why I hoped RTD would come back to write an episode about the two of them, to explain that. Actually, at this point I don't care if RTD's involved, or if it's even handled in an episode. Novel/comic/audio would also be satisfactory.

I just ignore that scene alltogether. We don't need to see either of them anyway (even if it is 10's farewell tour, but oh, well).

The scene itself isn't so bad, and the idea that Mickey and Martha would team up as alien-fighting mercenaries is a legitimate direction for both characters. But married? I would be interested in at least finding out what RTD was thinking when he wrote that, especially given at last indication Martha was engaged to that Dr. Milligan fella.

Does he not mention it in his book? (which one day I MUST read)

I'm not even sure its a legitimate direction for Martha tbh, she's a high trained professional, a high ranking doctor within UNIT, that she'd give that up just to go running around shooting Sontarans with Mickey seemed way off kilter. It struck me as RTD wanting to show all the modern companions (plus SJS) and having limited time so he stuck those two together-quite a disservice to both really. But then that farewell tour was unfair to several characters.

All Donna needed was money (how superficial) and all Jack needed was a shag (ditto).

I'd rather he'd have two scenes for Mickey and Martha seperately. Maybe show Mickey in the distant future, as an old man, and then help Martha in that hospital she'd be working on with a patient or something.

No, he doesn't why Martha and Mickey are together. Although one does get the impression that he did come to the decision late in the day, so to speak, given that an alternate script for Children of Earth which would have included a scene with Martha made it clear she had just married Dr. Milligan (the aired version just has a mention to her being on her honeymoon).

I don't know, I can easily see her growing disillusioned with UNIT, especially after the whole Osterhaagen Key thing. And with Torchwood pretty much done for at this point, her and Mickey could easily become mercenaries as the only way they can contribute to Earth's defense.

Place your bets on what the G is going to stand for!

I'd have liked Leela leaving in Invasion of Time, if her affection with Soldier Joe was shown. It didn't even have to be a focus of the story, but showcase that she actually cares for him and from there, you could make the assumptions fairly easily. That she left for a guy she literally just met without any build-up is ridiculous.

And apparently Leela doesn't realize that Andred will regenerate and thus outlive her.

Anyone curious to see what a superhero TV show under Moffat's direction would look like?

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016...he-scenes-of-the-doctor-who-christmas-special

And Steven Moffat is VERY excited about it. “I’ve always loved superheroes and this Christmas Doctor Who dives into that world" he said. "My favourite superhero is Clark Kent. Not Superman, Clark Kent.”

Gives you an insight into his thinking. Maybe he could do a BBC/BBC America collaboration superhero series.

It looks really stupid, but stupid can be fun, especially if its cheesy stupid instead of the irritating type of stupid. I'm hoping this will be the cheesy fun kind of stupid.
