Christian Space Opera Part II

Neroon-how'd you like The Star ?
AS I guessed... very intriguing. It's almost impossible for me to discuss the story without involving my faith. I can promise you that the story did not in any way upset that faith, but it was just as you said: thought provoking. The link you provided itself adds some nuance to the experience, by mentioning the couple of works involved as well as the subject of the picture to which the protagonist "talks".

I think it's going to require another reading or two before I can go into much more depth

Neroon, another story recommendation!

Ted Chiang's "Hell is the Absence of God." It's not space opera. It's more of a "what if?" story. Specifically, what if the god and angels of the Old Testament were still present today in the same way they were present and involved in human affairs during Biblical times. It's a world of religion without faith, as faith is no longer necessary, not when Archangels are a constant presence in modern life and Heaven and Hell can sometimes be seen. It's one of the most remarkable short stories I've ever read.

Alrighty, then! Not to detract from the original premise Dayton bean with, but thanks for the reading sugestion!
