CHRISTIAN BALE Arrested

Digital Spy are saying he's been questioned for 4 hours and released.

From Digital Spy

Christian Bale has been freed from police custody after four hours of questioning regarding assault claims.

The Dark Knight star was arrested earlier today following allegations that he "lashed out" at his mother Jenny and sister Sharon at London's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday night.

Scotland Yard confirmed that the Welsh-born actor has been released on bail to a date in September pending further inquiries.

Bale's initial arrest by appointment was reportedly delayed so as not to disrupt last night's premiere of the latest Batman film.

Big deal - he was arrested and placed on police bail after attending a pre-arranged appointment - it means next to nothing, except for the fact that the complaint might have merits - that's it.

If this ever comes to court, I'll eat my hat.

I'm not suggesting anything by posting it, I just thought others in the thread might be interested.

News from the grapevine indicates that the "assault" was in the form of a verbal argument that got out of hand.

Sources close to Bale are saying that it was a verbal confrontation and that at one point Bale either pushed his mother out of the way or brushed past her (depending on whose account is believed). She didn't fall to the ground, she didn't sustain any injuries. Verbal assault alone can lead to a charge of "assault" as a legal matter.

Rich celebs don't stay in jail, especially after their movie hits box office gold. They could strangle somebody on camera and laugh about it.

Exactly. Assault doesn't mean "beating up." If the two had noticable physical injuries, they'd have cuffed him on the spot.

Yep. Battery is the term associated with an actual offensive touch of some kind; Assault is essentially the fear of imminent battery. For instance, let's say someone draws back their fist like they're about to hit you in the face; that's assault.

Hearing this bit about only a verbal confrontation occurring...well, I just don't see anything sticking. Certainly an argument can be made for assault occurring in that kind of situation; but with the only two witnesses being family members with inherent bias, it's going to be a damn thin complaint without some kind of hard proof like a video tape.

BALE: (while dangling the top story of the sears tower) Why did you write that stuff?

SUN REPORTER: I SWEAR TO GOD I DIDN'T MEAN ANYTHING

BALE: Swear to ME!!!!!!! (drops him)

This assault thing doesn't surprise me. Bale has always had that "I'm an asshole" vibe going and he does look like someone who has a bit of a temper. I still like the guy though and think he has an impressive body of work, so whatever is going on hasn't tainted my view of him.

"If everyone really knew what a jerk I am in real life, I wouldn’t be so adored in the slightest." - Christian Bale, E! Online

Reports now are saying it was purely verbal assult which I think changes things a lot as to his character.

"Verbally assulting" someone is hardly something to stop the world over and is probably something we all do when we're angry and just happen to do it to people who don't call the cops on us.

I don't know the UK's laws but if in cases like this they're anything like ours he was probably held just to "defuse" the situation and let it cool down.

How fucked up is your relationship with your own son when you go to the cops because you got into an argument?

Apparently, from what I've heard from the news, the "assault" occurred the day before, and they didn't file charges until an entire day LATER. Also, Bale had distanced himself from his family, and they had not met face-to-face in YEARS.

I can see why.:vulcan:

What gets me is the timing of the thing. The movie hits the mega millions, and merely days later, mom and sis show up with an assault?

And they didn't even go to the police where the alleged assault occurred. They went to the police in the city in which they reside. Something really stinks here.

Oh i hope some copper had the sense to walk into the interrogation room with him, sit down and say......"I'm commissioner Gordon"..

I would pay good money to see that video....

Word has it that Gene Hunt was teleported in from the 70's just for the interrogation. Christian pulled the Batman card... Gene was unimpressed. Then they reinacted the Batman/Joker interrogation scene with Christian playing the Joker's part.

I wonder how much of the interrogation time was spent by the police asking him about his movies?

Cop 1: How much does the batsuit weigh?
Cop 2: Have you killed many Terminators in Terminator 4
Cop 3: Can I be in Batman 3?
Cop 4: My God it's Batman! Can I have your autograph?
Cop 5: When did London become Beverly Hills?

Turns out Bale's Mom and Sis were putting down his wife, and he went off on them. Yelling and stuff, but no physical violence.

Like many posters have said here, in today's "PC" world, "Assault" can literally be someone looking at you with a funny eye.

Maybe the guy does have a temper, which could have contributed to his great acting in Batman Begins (I haven't seen The Dark Knight yet)
