Chris Pine Wants To Know What’s Going On With Next Star Trek Movie

Yeah we're now nine months out from Beyond's release. You'd have thought we'd have heard something concrete by now, however small. Par for the course with Paramount's handling of this franchise unfortunately.

Chris Pine: "I’d like to find out so I can plan my life."

The fact that he hasn’t heard anything yet is noteworthy; eight months after announcing the movie, Pine remains in the dark. The comment about planning his life is actually important for in-demand actors who have to book their schedules well in advance. Zoe Saldana looks like she’s going to be booked up through next year with Avatar sequels.

I don't think it bodes very well at this point. Just look at how much better other tentpole/cinematic universe franchises are being handled at the moment. Not saying it isn't going to happen, but as King Daniel touches on above, it'll probably just bumble to some kind of release that's too big a gap - again, then lose a ton of money.

They can spend as much time as they need. It's not like they have a 50th year anniversary they can screw up… I mean meet this time.

guess we'll hear if its happening for certain in the next few months.. as it HAS to come out for summer 2019 (they can not do another 4 year gap)

Never say never. Even if they cancel ST4 now (which I doubt!), they'll probably resurrect it and reboot The Undiscovered Country in 20 years :p

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Paramount have to keep making Star Trek movies every few years or else the license reverts to CBS? Now the person I heard that from could have been mistaken, but I don't think they'd want to lose one of the few franchises keeping them afloat.

CBS and Paramount Pictures are part of the same corporation. Star Trek isn't going anywhere. No matter how ineptly Paramount handles it.

Obviously, Paramount is in flux, therefore the delays but have indicated they want to keep their tentpoles intact. Biggest movie of the year for Paramount qualifies.

Exactly, if Paramount handled Star Trek films the way others studios do their respective franchises: James Bond OO7 films, Marvel films and Star Wars films the box office would reflect it. You need every two years fixed scheduled release dates with proper promotion.

It’s likely that the shakeup at Paramount is the reason we haven’t heard much about ST 4...I would think that over the next few months as the new regime settles in we will hear one way or the other about the film.

I suspect that ST 4 will get made. The little we have heard from tptb at Paramount kind of hin that the film will eventually move forward. Of coarse that could change considering that Beyond was a fairly big letdown at the box office.

Zoe said that JJ contacted her and asked if she'd like to make another movie, but she doesn't know more about a movie being made and when either.

I want another movie only if they have something solid and a good team and director who loves this reboot and doesn't further go backwards in the name of tos nostalgia (and to placate the haters while driving away the people who love this trek instead). Beyond being the least successful of the 3 is in large part the result of them making certain choices that backfired.
They also serioustly need someone who knows what to do when it comes to marketing because it sucked big time last time.

I think it's release in a crowded schedule was the main reason for it's box office underperformance. Though I'd agree with you I thought the promotion for the movie sucked.

09 was incredible . it is the best star trek movie and is one of the best sci fi movies ever.

Into Darkness was a good movie but it was not a good star trek movie in my opinion.

Beyond is one of the best star trek movies.

I think Beyond saved the franchise for most fans both old and new.. Into Darkness was the movie that had the tos nostalgia and the movie that backfired with fans, add that to the
huge backlash that led JJ Abrams to kind of apologise for how Into Darkness turned out.

Beyond as the least successful of the 3 films has nothing to do with tos nostalgia. many franchise do slump in box office by their 3rd movie.I think if they had made beyond like intro darkness, the box office would have been less than what beyond made.

if there is a new film, I will rather see JJ Abrams come back as the director .
Star Trek Beyond is the film that finally bridges the gap of old and new fans. in a way it felt like tos again but at the same time, the growth with the characters in this alternate timeline was very believable. I dont think the old or new fans felt alienated from Beyond at all.

I agree about the marketing too. Paramount needs to promote this franchise like disney does with star wars. if paramount put in the effort. the trek movies should be doing 500m world wide at the box office.
