China bans time travel

They can try to do what American republicans always try to do, ban books, keep people stupid.

Are you serious? When has republicans done this? I live in a blue state, so I probably just haven't experienced it.

Well it's the republicans, and democrats.

Throughout history governments try to keep the population stupid so they keep the same people in power. You can't teach slaves to read, then they would read the Bill of Rights and realize they have rights. So you must keep people stupid to stay in command of the people. Now a days it's the banning of Harry Potter from schools and cutting education budgets so the people stay stupid and don't see what's really going on and think for themselves. Stupid people are always stupid, educated people have their minds open.

In China it's to keep people from seeing whatever the government might not like them to see and start thinking outside the box. China wants to stay a dictatorship so they have to live in the past and can't show anything that might get people to see things differently.

Hopefully this makes some sense.

Soon, the Chinese government will ban the Chinese government, on the grounds that said government often casually makes up myths, enacts monstrous and weird plots and uses absurd tactics (all demonstrated in such acts as banning time travel shows).

It does and it doesn't. School budgets are being cut because it is the easiest target.

It seems like you are mistaking "stupid" with "lack of critical thinking." The most well educated person can be lacking in critical thinking simply because he or she never needed the skill.

I know a ton of doctors and engineers who get swindled by high school dropouts. The ability to think critically and analyze a situation has nothing to do with school budgets.

Keeping the masses actually stupid and illiterate (which is what you suggest) do not serve those in power. In today's global market, you need a highly skilled workforce to remain competitive. If nobody else in the world wants to hire your citizens or buy any products your country makes, you are screwed in the long run.

North Korea is the perfect example. The dictatorship model worked in 1970. But the country is crumbling in 2011. Also, United States is not North Korea.

Sounds like the awesome plot to a Chilean magical surrealist novel which is no doubt banned in China.

I for one applaud the courage and foresight of the Chinese government. Time travel is a grossly overused sci-fi trope especially on Trek.:angryrazz:

P.S. I let it slide for Doctor Who though.

Only time travelers know that WW III began as a dispute between China and the west over the issue of time travel, which ironically did not exist at the time.

Yes, that's the signal!!!! My great, great grandson, Reginald visited me last week and told me he made time travel possible. Obviously I didn't believe him, and told him to prove it, so he said "Watch what China does with TV censorship" and then he vanished into the night.

Reggie, I believe you. I BELIEVE YOU!!!!

Interesting. This morning I traveled back to the Jurassic and stepped on a butterfly. Now I return and China is banning time travel.

Coincidence?

The guidelines discouraging this type of show said that some “casually make up myths, have monstrous and weird plots, use absurd tactics, and even promote feudalism, superstition, fatalism and reincarnation.”

I want a job where I can write stuff like this.

I was hoping this would be a joke

I sure as hell hope China falls soon - if they take over, theoretical physicists the world over will be declared enemies of the state and 'disappear'

I second this notion. Theoretical Physicists will be but one of many groups of people deemed enemies of the state and simply disappear.

No flux capacitor for you!

Tho it looks lie the universe may have beat them to it. Time travel backwards is likely impossible.
