Chillin at the Food Court

There was much left to be discussed of the awesomeness of Food Courts, so let's pick it up.

Here in New Jersey, we're known for 2 main things, 24 hour diners located every 100 feet and Malls. In the town near me, it's famous for having 4 malls (there could be more by now) I know it used to be a big shopping town, I don't know if it still holds the record.

Anyway, if there's one good thing about a mall, it's a kickass Food Court. Sadly, over the years, the food courts have really gone downhill. Where you used to have a selection of like 20 places, you're left with maybe 5.

I'll admit it, years ago, back in high school before we could drive, the cool thing to do was go to the mall and chill in the Food Court. I have many fond memories of food court shenanigans.

Who else digs a good Food Court?

I'll repost what I said earlier, since the other thread is closed:

We had a GREAT food court around here. Chik-fil-a, Hot Sam's Pretzel Co., Great Steak & Potato Company, The Chocolate Chip Cookie Factory, McDonalds, Gold Star Chili, and a KFC.

Now we just have a Gold Star chili.

And to add, our mall is falling apart now. Out of the 70 store capacity, it has 23 stores remaining, including the aforementioned Gold Star Chili.

I do recall being quite fond of the Chic-Fil-A at the student union on campus when I was in college. It totally killed my skinny frame, but I loved it.

I liked the regular sandwiches.

My favorite meal when I worked at our mall (for Sears as an electronics salesman), was a Chik-fil-A sandwich, an order of waffle fries and a lemonade.

Mmmm...

Chic-Fil-A is pretty darn good.

But, as I said in the other thread, once my local food court stopped having a 1 Potato 2 (and what repalced it Spuds) I stopped going.

Got to have my baked tater.

There's one mall here that has a decent food court. I like to go to the DQ and have a sundae.

Chik-Fil-A has never existed in this town that I'm aware of. It sounds delicious though...

Malls aren't on the list of things I miss since I left NJ... but 24 hour diners are. Where else can I get an omelette any time of day!

Up here in Edmonton, I've only been to Wested once or twice... though I'm sure they have an epic sized food court there. It is the 5th largest mall in the world, after all.

My weakness was the waftos.

Its a sad state of affairs that my increased weight size is all due to my love of fried potato awesomeness, moreso that i have given up on them in my effort to slim down. But every once in a while.... man, its hard to say no.

Not that it will make up for the lack of diners there, but have you checked out Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives?

If we had a decent selection of diners here, I would never venture near a food court at all.

When we first moved to town way back when, we had about 6 shopping malls in the entire metro area. Now I have six within a ten minute drive. Only one has a food court I'll venture into for more than the goodness that is an Orange Julius. That mall has a Nathan's Hot Dog outlet...

We have a lot of great independent diners and restaurants here. I can't remember the last time I visited a food court, or a chain restaurant of any kind for that matter.

The food court in Chattanooga has been reduced to 5 different Chinese restaurants,a Sbarro, a Subway, and a Taco Bell. It's pretty pathetic.

That does look pretty good. Only place around here that sells decent chicken sandwiches is Fuddruckers (and they are also delish).

Our local Fuddruckers isn't that good. Most of our franchise restaurants are poor, but CFA gets it right. Their chicken is very juicy and tender, and melts in your mouth. Add some lightly salted waffle fries and either an ice cold Coke or lemonade (I used to get the special for $2.99), and there was no reason to eat anywhere else.

I had a Nathan's hot dog in Penn Station at the beginning of the month... it was probably the first time I had one in years. It was, as they say, the stuff

The worst part of moving long distance: all the good comfort food is different!

The best hot dog I have ever eaten in my entire life was at Yankee Stadium last year. Although Costco, of all places, has good hot dogs as well. As does Katz's Deli.
