chilean miners getting rescued after 2 months: livestream

Up to 20 now. Did the 19 year old get out? He was new and was freaking out a little.

IIRC, he was the 3rd to get out. Yeah he looked totally freaked, but i would be too if i was 19 and had only been on the job for such a short time before this whole thing happened.

Here comes the next suppository- er, miner.

:D

I wonder about the guy who has a wife AND a girlfriend waiting for him. I can imagine he may be somewhat apprehensive about coming up. Maybe he'll just decide he would rather stay down there.

I have just read this

The emergence of one of the 33 miners being rescued revealed which of two women fighting over him - his wife and his girlfriend - triumphed in his affections.
Yonni Barrios, the 21st miner to be hauled to the surface, stepped out of the escape capsule to be hugged by his mistress, Susana Valenzuela.

Valenzuela and Barrios’s wife of 28 years, Marta Salinas, had come to blows weeks ago, when both claimed to be the woman Barrios was pining for as he sat trapped in the mine in northern Chile.
In the end, Salinas declined Barrios’s invitation to be present alongside Valenzuela when the 50-year-old miner was winched to the surface, Chilean media reported.

He wanted them both there.

Oh... I thought they were going to do 10 "strong" guys and then then the weak guys. I heard he was on the job 2-3 days when this happened. I would be insane by the time I got out of the hole.

And I'm pretty sure his wife went "fuck you" and then left him, but not legally. I'd wait a little while for divorce that way she can get more money out of him.

Twenty seven are up now, with six to go. This was a great Thread to read. I needed some happy news.

Can we pull out the Planet of the Apes masks yet...?

I like it how number 27 was given a signed t-shirt by a footballer. Such a piece of equipment is needed when you're trapped underground. :D

Five to go.

these reunions with family are so heartwarming - I'm so glad this nightmare is finally ending for all concerned.

I haven't been following the story particularly, beyond being aware it was going on of course, but caught a couple of the evening news bulletins today. Pretty impressive operation, and I'm glad it's going smoothly. Good stuff.

Something also tells me the Chilean President's domestic approval ratings will skyrocket soon. I notice he's going to be here in England next week, presumably having been invited to sprinkle that magic pixie mine dust around Downing Street. :D

They have a live feed from down the mine, I wonder if it might be possible to get a feed from inside the rescue capsule? (which also has continuous communication with the rescuers)

That might be a real violation of their private space. Think how close that would have to be to them, in that capsule.

They could just put the camera in the *empty* capsule. No space to intrude on then. Besides they will probably want to bring up some of the equipment from down there anyway.

There is a camera on the top and bottom of the capsule, but not inside.

For medical monitoring there *might* be a camera inside to check on the miners as they ascend but probably not available for public viewing.

Well done... very happy scenes in my office... now we have to send the capsule back five more times for those medics...
