chilean miners getting rescued after 2 months: livestream

And the second miner, Mario Sepulveda, has made it to the surface! :D

I wonder about the guy who has a wife AND a girlfriend waiting for him. I can imagine he may be somewhat apprehensive about coming up. Maybe he'll just decide he would rather stay down there.

Hee hee. I hope his rescue isn't later tonight when I'm asleep.

All joking aside, this is riveting stuff. When that first rescue guy made it into the mine, I was in tears. Awesome!

With luck both will be able to hold off on...sorting matters out...until after he's had his medical exam and had a chance to sleep first.

(I am having a very hard time writing in English right now, since I'm hearing a Spanish narration of all of this, so forgive me if I do slip up and post something in the wrong language without realizing what I've done!)

The schedule I was reading says one miner per hour, roughly a day and a half, if there are no issues cropping up.

Seems like they're going faster than that, though. I'm pretty sure I've had CNN on for less than an hour, and I saw the first two come up and the third is on his way.

They are. They're definitely ahead of schedule. At one point I heard the commentator say it looked like it may take only 24 hours instead of 33 if they keep this pace.

Despite all my pessimism about humanity and the awful things we can do to each other this story, the drive and determination of the rescuers and the miners and the sheer will to get this done fills me with pride and joy.

Just saw the 3rd man reach the top and how he is greeted.. what a great day.

I have been watching the coverage on Australia's WIN TV. This station has the two rescued Beaconsfield miners, commenting on the rescue. One of these miners, Todd Russell, has expressed concern because it seems that the wives of the Chilean miners are not being allowed to accompany their husbands in the ambulance to the hospital. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Todd believes that having his wife beside him for the hours following the rescue was very important to him and that he wouldn't have wanted to be parted from her even for the trip to the hospital.

These men are in remarkable physical condition, given what they've just been through... if not for the shades they are wearing (probably take a bit of time to adjust to the surface light levels), you might not even recognize where they've been.

I heard that the first few men up will be among the fittest. These men are being let up first to see how they cope in the cage. The weaker ones and the ones with health problems will follow and other fit men will bring up the rear.

One of the miners is a diabetic, another one suffers from silicosis. I imagine that their conditions will be poorer.

This is a beautiful story, and it's so great to wake up to good news for a change. Watching this story has brought so many people together in their good feelings towards the miners. I hope that the good news continues. :)

The news this morning was gripping and very moving. Not often you can say that when you switch on the news for a quick look before work.

21 gone.

Did the guy with the wife and mistress get out yet?

This is awesome stuff. Only 12 to go.

Then again, it's 12 plus however many medics they've sent down the hole...
